Swim
Comments: It was impossible to get into a proper crawl as I was in the middle of the pack. Also, I was blocked quite a few times by slower swimmers I perhaps did 100m crawl out of 750m Water quality in the River was surprisingly okay What would you do differently?: Next time I would try to get nearer the front Also, most importantly I lost my chip (or it went missing!). So, I don't have most of my times. Next time I would focus more on keeping hold of that Transition 1
Comments: Last minute we were told that wetsuits were forbidden due to the temperature, so my transition was easy I didn't dry or try to put on socks. I just put my shoes on and ran What would you do differently?: Nothing I don't think. It went well and no messing about Bike
Comments: I got into a couple of packs & was happy with that but very impressed with the speed some people were going at. However, I noticed that a lot of the people that were flying at the beginning puffed themselves out. By the end I was going faster solo than the pack :D Transition 2
Comments: Fast transition, but didn't jump on the moving bike Run
Comments: My legs were okay with the transition I could have gone a lot faster & 'had to' walk a couple of times. In the end I picked someone and just locked onto them for the run Generally happy, but I will work on my run more What would you do differently?: Try not to do ANY walking. This was my weakest. I could have tried much harder Post race
Warm down: Stretching What limited your ability to perform faster: Finding out that crawl was impossible in the pack Not having enough stamina in the run. I need to work on that Event comments: My first sprint went well & I really enjoyed it. Note though that I made a real rookie error & somehow lost my chip at the beginning & had to see who was in front of me at the end of each section. An official logged my end time luckily So, I was really nervous of the swim as it was in the Spree (large Berlin river), but once in I was comfortable despite having to lose the wetsuit at the last minute because of the heat. Secondly, all my swim training for crawl went out of the window as it was just too tight in the pack. Breast stroke was fine though & in the second half I was really enjoying the swim Bike went great! I had no clips or cycling shoes, but it didn't hinder me at all (last couple of weeks 100km rides sorted out my stamina!) I got into lots of packs & by the end I realised that I was going faster in my own as the packs had slowed down somehow The run was my weakest segment & I walked intermittently. Note to self that because I had no chip I didn't know what to do at the end & a couple ran past me before I realised that I could give the official my number. Small thing but there it is Generally though I had a great time & caught myself planning my next in the middle of the race :D Last updated: 2017-02-23 12:00 AM

2.5 hours before the race I ate 2 slices of toast & a banana/ PB smoothie (2 bananas & 2 dessert spoons of PB)
Stretched, ate a banana protein bar about 30 minutes before the race. Light electrolytes in my water
5 minutes before race & stretched my hamstrings & did a little yoga. Other than that I chatted to folks and tried to keep my mind occupied
