Got to race site and got my number and chip.

set up transition.
Event warmup:

Was only able to do a swim warm up.Got in the water, got comfortable. didn't push pace.

This was a warm up for Patriot Half Ironman the following week. Was using this race as a season opener. get used to racing again.
Swim
  • 10m 10s
  • 600 yards
  • 01m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

Very good swim. i swam the whole way, never stopped once to get my bearings or calm down.

At one point i was right next to another swimmer. i pushed real hard and sped away from him and then slowed down a bit. felt a bit out of breath but nothing bad.
What would you do differently?:

Not one thing

Transition 1
  • 02m 9s
Comments:

wetsuit got stuck on heels. i sat down and had a hard time getting the suit off my feet. realized i should have done it differently.
What would you do differently?:

remember to stand and take suit off by using my feet.

remember to start my bike computer before the start of the race.
Bike
  • 44m 11s
  • 13.5 miles
  • 18.33 mile/hr
Comments:

Got a neck cramp out 5 minutes into the bike. this was the first ride of the year outside. all riding had been done on a trainer.

i felt good fitness wise but had some issues staying in aero position. towards the end of the ride got a bit better. just need to get out and ride more.
What would you do differently?:

nothing. was shooting for 37 minutes, but missed that due to having to sit up every few minutes.
Transition 2
  • 01m 17s
Comments:

i had some issues getting my socks on. i normally race without socks for sprints but i needed to practice with socks for Patriot next week.
What would you do differently?:

not sure
Run
  • 27m 14s
  • 3 miles
  • 09m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

good run. wanted to stay at a 9:00 min/mile pace and then push at the end. I was able to do that without any real issues
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Post race
Warm down:

not much. sat in the tent at the finish line and rested. drank some water, got gatorade and then some food.

walked around a bit and then headed to transition, as i had to leave quickly.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

was keeping with pacing and speeds for Patriot. overall this pace was very comfortable and i could have gone faster.

Event comments:

Good race. I unfortunately couldn't stay for the beer garden afterwards. I had to leave to go coach a kids baseball game.

I liked this race much better than escape the cape that it replaced. next year i'll probably do the Olympic.

Your bike costs a lot to replace. Don't let it get rusty.
