Run
Comments: Was planning to try to be good about rest week (plus I had an FTP test planned the next morning), but given the nature of the trail that was likely not a realistic plan. Clay was pushing pretty hard in the early going, and I just hung with him. A few miles in, he faded back and I was out in front for some downhill sections. I again tried to be smart and backed off (just a little), which allowed Clay to catch back up on a short uphill section later on (so much for that idea). Again we ran together before I left him behind for good when I decided to pick people off until the end. Got the last guy on the steep hill before the finish (really buried him there, actually). What would you do differently?: With the elevation (~650) it was unlikely I was ever going to be able to make this an "easy" run, but pushing it during a meaningless trail race wasn't a great set up for my FTP test the next day. Post race
Warm down: Walked around until everyone came in, then headed down to the beach. Would've brought a change of clothes had I know there would be swimming after! What limited your ability to perform faster: I guess nothing, but that's beside the point on this one haha. Event comments: I'm really glad I got talked into signing up for this one, it was a stunningly beautiful course, with multiple gorgeous views throughout the whole thing. Will definitely do it again in the future. Last updated: 2018-06-27 12:00 AM

Definitely a weird race to prep for, with a 6:30pm start time and a 4:15 departure time for the carpool. Ate a banana in the car which seemed to hold me over for the race.
None, trying to be good about rest week (which Clay ruined by deciding to push the pace)
