| Subject: The first American Black pro triathlete - Phone coach - call meHelp right a WRONG! He is profiting from my title as the first.
Sorry, Max Fennell is NOT the first African-American pro triathlete. It doesn't seem that he is getting paid by a sponsor.
I am Thurston Sawyer II signing up as a Pro competing in the Long Beach, California triathlon in 1984.
I was a Pro cyclist many years
before that starting with the USCF racing criterium, then moved to time trails. That is where I did the best, finishing second in the King of the Mountain in 1982. Making me in the top 1000 time trial cyclist in the world as the first African-American Pro cyclist in America and I finished 537 on the Bud Light Triathlon Series in 1984 Long Beach, California race event.
I am 57 years old and in training now for the upcoming Long Beach Legacy Triathlon July 20, 2019.
The 35 year anniversary of the race I competed in 1984.
My sponsor was Huffy stationary bike trainer I signed an agreement with them and they sent me a check for $119 dollars in 1984.

A 35 year come back!
I am looking for sponsors again!
