Swim
Comments: Not a great swim. Got tired early, not sure why...probably went out too hard. Maintained my stroke, did catch some short breaths at pool end a couple of times. Transition 1
Comments: Solid transition. Got in and out pretty well. Bike
Comments: Decent bike...lots of wind which slowed us all down some, I think. And the hills seemed hard. I made it up OK in lower gears but the legs were burning. Tried to take the first loop very comfortably. Pushed with some five-minute HI intervals on a couple minutes rest on the second loop What would you do differently?: Need to work on leg strength for hills to be better. Transition 2
Comments: Decent transition. Shoes came on easily with bungee laces, but I still have to sit down to get them on. Run
Comments: Followed my normal protocol, only with walking periods of 45 seconds instead of a minute. For the most part, normal power seemed to be in the 180s. Total power came in at 165 for the race. Had hoped to do some higher intensity intervals, but those more or less came naturally on the hills. I did jog easily up most hills, all but one that came during a walking interval. What would you do differently?: Nothing...this will remain my plan going forward. Post race
Warm down: Guzzled a bottle of water and walked around a bit. What limited your ability to perform faster: Advancing age, I'm afraid. Last updated: 2023-03-10 12:00 AM

Up at 5am, had an English muffin for sustenance, headed out. Quick set up but had plenty of time since we loitered in transition until called into the natatorium. Popped a gel before the swim.
Minimal, just some stretching.
