Subject: Hello!
I started running 12 years ago at the young age of 43! It begin with a new job where they did the corporate challenge (3.5 mile run). The first year I did it just for social reasons and to get the know the people I worked with. I ran a couple times a few weeks before the event. Was able to jog the whole the 3.5 miles without walking but hardly could call it running. The next year I decided to start running a couple months before the event and actually ran the whole race. The third year my daugther invited me to do a father's day 5K with her and I noticed I was loosing weight while I was running so started "training" year round.

Did a a couple 10K's and then had a friend who was into fitness but not running who started running with me. He's got like zero body fat though and it wasn't long before he was training and racing way faster than me. We did train together and I did my first 1/2 marathon 6 years ago. I did another 1/2 marathon the next year, but bursitis in the hip started bothering me. My soft tissue specialist suggested I stick to training for no longer than 10K. Never really understood the heart rate training zones and doing easy runs. I always tried to go the fastest I could for whatever distance I was going to go run for.

So New Years Day 2023, my daughter tells me she started doing sprint Triahtlons and ask if I want to do one with her. So I signed up at gym that had a pool and started training right away. Bought a road bike in April and did two sprint triathlons in 2023. I slacked off in my training winter of 2023/2024 and when I started back up late winter/ early spring of last year I pushed to hard to fast and developed a bad case of plantar facisitis. That kept me out all season. So this January I restarted training again being much smarter and doing alot of low heart rate training. I invested in a garmin watch and polar chest heart rate monitor. Hoping to do couple sprints this year, maybe work up to an olympic and maybe a half IM in the next couple years, if I can manage the bursitis in the hip well enough.
