The race began, and was centered around Springfield's historic Doling Park. The race consisted of three segments where clues had to be found and questions answered in order to get your "passport" punched. We started the race with a game of Red light/Green light to get the first clue.

The first segment took us to the Springfield Discovery Center where we learned, among other things, about the Green elements of the building. Some teams took the bus the 2.75 miles to the Discovery Center. We ran/walked. After getting our "pasport" punched, with the bonus I should add, we headed for the park. We started walking along the bus route and soon got on a bus and joined most of the other family teams. Thank goodness, that saved us at least one mile of walking.

Once back to the park we received instructions to go to the zoo. We chose to skip the bus, since the zoo was only about 1.5 miles away. There was quite a bit of walking to be done at the zoo, but we found everthing, including the bonus, and once again we headed back to the park.

The third segment was at the park itself and started with a water pinata to get the first clue. We then had to find two places to get our card punched. They were both hidden quite well.

We had a great time and got a lot of good exercise.
