Swim
Comments: Swim is still the hardest event for me- breathing was better than Keuka but I still had a problem getting in a stroke rhythm and them taking in water. What would you do differently?: Practice more. Perhaps try doing more strokes (8-10) instead of 4-6 before breathing. Transition 1
Comments: Supremely lousy transition. I was dead tired from the swim so I was not able to focus on doing each task well. Wetsuit stuck on anles, Trouble with socks and shoes, wasted time putting on jersey and gloves. What would you do differently?: No more screwing with gloves in the transition area. I will either put them on during the ride or not at all. I am pretty used to wearing gloves while riding but I think I might try ditching them. No more socks- shoes only! I will probably try doing the whole race with contacts in instead of just for the swim. That should take about 45 seconds off my T1 time. Bike
Comments: The hill from the transition area and the road was the hardest part. I was dying while I was grinding out the hill. Probably a hill I should have been able to zip up normally but right after T1 makes it a little harder. Once out of the park the hills were not all that bad. I saw the leaders coming in as I was about a mile out. There was a dead deer in the road at mile 4 and a remains of a yard sale a little past that. A nice policeman at the turnaround and the meat mobile (ambulance) was going back and forth on the road looking for casualties. I was definately riding harder and stronger after the turn. There was a cool downhill into the park and towards the Transition Area and I did not hear any 'no-pedaling rule' for there like Keuka had so I hit the turn off the road sharp and hauled down the hill and across the bridge. I had a little too much momentum and almost tripped over my own feet on my flying dismount. What would you do differently?: Not much- obviously push it at a quicker cadence in the beginning. Transition 2
Comments: Nothing went wrong with the transition but I seemed to not do it at a very good pace. For some reason I did not hit the timing mat when I ran across it so my T2 time and Bike time were scored together. What would you do differently?: Hit the mat! Get out of there right away next time. Run
Comments: I ran the hill well but needed to walk about 25 yards towards the midpoint because I got a stitch. I saw Bob and Mike on their way back and gave them a five as we passed. What would you do differently?: Not a good time- I need to make sure I use my Garmin 201 so I can manage my running pace more effectively. Post race
Warm down: They were handing out water and snickers- Interesting combination. Gatorade and a few pieces of fruit at my truck hit the spot. Pictures with all of us and we hit the road. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of focus. Not swimming well, again. Not managing bike and run times well. Last updated: 2007-06-26 12:00 AM
