Comments: Started to the far right of the pack and was able to get out to a good start. I avoided all the traffic, which allowed me to get into a good rhythm. Bouys were large enough to see so navigation was never a problem. Also, this is a smaller triathlon, so there weren't hundreds of people in the water causing a hunge chop and making navigation difficult. I think I was in the top 10 to 15 out of the water (just guessing). ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Transition was a little slower than I wanted it to be...can't figure out why other than I was in no hurry. I wanted to make sure I had everything I needed. I had about a 25 yard run with my bike before mounting. ![]() Bike
Comments: I got out of the water in a good position, but that was short lived on the bike. I was easily passed by at least 10-15 guys that were screaming by (good for them). I kept a good pace and felt good the entire bike. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Time is estimated. ![]() Run
Comments: Once again, I was slower than I would have liked. I was passed by three people on the run, one being my daughter which inspired me to pick up my pace. My lower back was a little tight during the run, but didn't affect the run too much other than I could feel a little discomfort. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Walked around the event site. Ate watermelon, oranges, and nuts. Event comments: This may be one of the best little races I've ever participated in. The Victorville YMCA hosts the event and they do an outstanding job bringing the community together for a day of fitness. If you're looking for your first triathlon to compete in, and you don't want to have hundreds of people swimming over the top of you, then I'd highly recommend this event. The one shortfall this year was there were not enough volunteers at the college, and classes began at 0800 hours so there was traffic on the campus (no one was monitoring the cars which made it interesting in a few spots). Other than that, this was a fun event, and I would highly recommned it to others. The organizer and volunteers did a wonderful job, and there was plenty of fun after the event. Up at 3:45 a.m. for drive to Victorville. A can of Ensure Wild Berry and a plain bagel did the trick for breakfast; coffee for the ride over of course. Check-in was very organized. The morning was beautiful; clear skies and warm water.
After getting my equipment orgainzed in the transition area I was able to do some stretching prior to the event beginning. For example, prior to the swim, I was able to get in the water and swim around for a few mins. This was enough for me, but some folks did take advantage of the swim warm up.
