Hi Everyone, I'm new to BT and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Heather, I'm from the bay area but currently living in India with my husband on expat assignment. After over a year away from racing I'm eager to get back to training as best as I can while living here. I'm trying to plan my training season and am hoping to jump up to a half this year on my way to full in the next few years. I spent most of the last 4 years racing in sprint and olympic races including escape from alcatraz. If we move home this summer, as planned, I hope to participate in the Boulder 5430 Long Course. If not, will aim for the Singapore 70.3. I participated in India's first ultra marathon in December, and have actually consulted with the race organizers about attempting to bring triathlon to India...

Anyhoo, just wanted to introduce myself. Thanks for listening and looking forward to being a part of the BT family

Hi heather,

I´m quite surprised on the lack of races in INDIA, I´ve seen many of them here in BKK training hard at the tracks, but I suppose swimming is not much in the culture?

Sing 70.3 is a neat race, you should always consider Laguna Phuket Tri in December.

Have fun in Asia,

Vinnie

I agree, the lack of races here is very unfortunate. Luckily I've met several people who are trying to change that. Its pretty amazing here, half of the marathons that are put on here don't actually allow women to run the full marathon. Interesting times for sure. There are a few swimming pools, but as you suggested, swimming is not very big here.

I've read about the December race in Thailand, and would love to try it out. Just not sure on the logistics quite yet - still need to track down a bike box before I can commit to any races at this point. I also found a race in Bali at the end of June that I'm very tempted by

Thanks for the warm welcome

Hi Heather, I have a few friends in your part of the world and I agree, the racing scene is not like it is here in the states. (They are marathoners so have a few more options)

Good Luck

Luckily I'm in Bangalore so the weather is much more mild than in many other parts of India. We don't get hit with nearly as much humidity. Although, after enjoying the lovely coastal weather of California (Monterey and SF for almost 8 years) even now I find it very hot here. Its amazing how much I sweat everyday - and it's technically cold season right now. I think we're averaging low 80's at the moment.

I think the weather is going to start heating up in March, which is actually a little worrisome for my upcoming training. Looks like I'll be running and riding early in the morning before it really starts to heat up, and then of course there is the monsoon season to look forward to. Unfortunately evening running and riding isn't possible due to the mosquitos. But I digress. Overall, the weather isn't too bad, it could definitely be worse

Wow, it feels great to talk about triathlon again, I've missed it so much.

LOL, I think I've watched that episode of The Office about a thousand times (Fun Run - Season 4 opener). I think my favorite part is the carbo-loading of fettuccine alfredo minutes before the start of the 5 kilometer race, and the inevitable stomach trouble that followed not to mention the refusal to drink any fluids, hee hee.
