Subject: RE: Iron Mountain HalfI did this 1/2 ironman race last year. It was well organized and had the right amount of aid stations, etc. It was my first 1/2 ironman, so I was really nervious. I plan to do it again this year.
The bike portion is hilly, but nothing undoable. I am not an expert cyclist at all, and I made it. There is at least one downhill that you really need to be careful on, but they warn you about where it is before hand. I saw some pushing their bikes up a couple of hills. I am rather small so I was able to crank it out without getting off. My toughest portion was the swim, but I am a slow swimmer, and I have a lot of anxiety in the lake. As far as lakes go, it is nice. I did not have to swim through grass or anything.
A friend of mine did the sprint distance tri the following day. She and her husband camped out in a pop-up camper and had a great time. We stayed at a hotel that was around ten minutes away (if I remember correctly ) from the race. The hotel was not so great, but I was so nervious about the race that it did not bother me too much.
Hope this info is useful. Have a great day,
