Subject: Alternative to flavored drink nutrition?
I'm on my longer ride journey now for IMFL and find that I can only stomach liquid nutrition with a sweet flavor (even light amounts) for about 3 hours. In fact, thw sweet of mostly anything gags me after about 3:30. Does anyone have any ideas for how to get calories, etc. in the drink that is tasteless?
Thanks as now is the time to practice this stuff.

Carbopro suppossedly mixes in tasteless. I use it but always mix in a little orange gatorade for flavor; so I haven't tried the flavorless thing.

Try going to the Infinit website and develop your own formulation by dialing back the taste.  You'll be able to keep the carbs, electrolytes and protein (if you want protein for IM) as the normal formulation, or you can even modify those as you wish.  If you can't decide how to do this, call them up and they'll walk you thru it.  I haven't had to call them since I've had good luck forumulating my own, but I've hear they have fantastic customer support for people trying to figure out the right formulation for them. Good luck.

X2 what Birkie said.  I use the Ironman standard Infinit formula and it works great.  I too had issues with the sweetness of other drinks, but I want to maintain my caloric intake and even increase salt some so I don't have to take as many salt tabs.  The above formula does the trick for me.  I can handle the taste in hot weather and at high intensities.  I also had them help me formulate my own for long runs with extra salt, but unfortunately it was too salty and I couldn't handle the taste.

They are very good to work with and stand behind thier product!

Yes, they are great, but I still need no taste at all after 3 hours or so.

So, what's the problem????  Go to the Infinit site and set the taste to zero on your formulation.

I went CarboPro for the same reason.  Virtually no taste in moderate quantities; a teeny hint of taste if you use a lot.   I toss in a cucumber and lemon slice, like at the spa.   But it has no electrolytes, and I find if I dump in Endurolytes, it has a bit of a chalky metallic taste.

I got tired of the orange and lime flavors so I was really glad to come across sun tea flavor from PowerBar.  That's all I use now.  For IM FL last year I used that with Carbopro and I was fine and didn't have a problem.  Especially with the Carbopro you can make it less sweet counting the calories.

How about gels?  Are you okay with that?  What's gel but sports drink with most of the water taken out?  Get all your calories from gel, all your fluid from plain water, and probably supplement with electrolyte tablets.

I switched to Hammer Perpetuem unflavored this year for my IM. Does have a taste, but is not sweet. I have a picky stomach, and this has worked for me.
