Subject: Almond Milk?
Anyone use almond milk instead of regular dairy? My coach is suggesting I replace regular milk with almond milk. His reasoning is almond milk is processed muc easier by our bodies. Any experiences or thoughts?

I love almond milk and I don't eat dairy so I'm not sure of the comparison of protein of almond milk versus dairy.  (I think almond milk is relatively low though) Our bodies do have some difficulty with dairy though so I can understand the recommendation.

You can generally find it in the regular grocery store but places like Whole Foods and Trader Joe's will have it as well.

I have been using "Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Breeze" for a few years now--- of course, my reasons were not quite so noble as easier digestion.  It had fewer calories than milk, and I was trying to lose weight.     It doesn't taste too bad, though, and lacks the aftertaste that some soy milks have.

At any rate, I've read that Almond Breeze has moved their stuff from the regular grocery aisles to the refrigerated section, and that now the unsweetened version is unavailable.  It's too bad, because the regular almond milk is fairly high in fat and calories compared to skim milk.

Really? thats a shame.  There is something called Almond dream which is also unsweetened and 30 calories/cup.  Whole Foods has it as well as various 'natural' food stores.

I tried the "Raw Food Detox Diet" once for a couple months and the author suggested moving from milk to almond milk.  Her contention was that regular milk takes so long to digest whereas almond milk doesn't.

It was surprisingly extremely tasty.  It's basically just chopped almonds blended with water.  Then, you drain it through a sieve and the runny stuff is your "milk."

I'm not doing that diet anymore, but I still buy almond milk 'cause it's so good.

My son had only homemade almond milk from age 1 year to age 2 becauce of problems with dairy. We made it 2 - 3 times a week, almonds were cheap then so it cost less then milk and taste great. Store almond milk costs alot...i mostly make soy milk now and almond milk once in awhile. I dont know if its healthier than dairy but it tastes better to me.

Almond milk, soy milk, rice milk....  all are good substitutes for dairy.

A bit watery. May be good as stand alone drink but not thick enough for, say, coffee or cereal. And that's just me.

OK-here is the review.

I was really suprised at how much I liked it. I tried the pacifica low fat vanilla. It has a really sweet taste with a hint of nuttiness. It is the consistency of skim milk which I am used to so that wasn't a problem. I tried this morning with my honey flax cereal and didn't have to use splenda to sweeten it. So far so good.
