Subject: Ugh!!!! Frikkin' allergies!
I hate my allergies. I'm allergic to raw most fruits and veggies (anaphylaxis-type reaction, itchy throat that closes up if I'm exposed too much). Recently, I tried a Fuji apple (which had always been hit and miss) and felt nothing. I was so happy I started Fuji eating apples constantly. But I just ate one and within one bite I'm a huge itchy mess and my throat is getting tight (don't worry.... not that tight). I'm soooo pissed! I can never figure this out. Something will seem ok for a while, then all of a sudden it'll get me with a vengeance. I know there are tons of variables, but that's ridiculous. OK, sorry, had to vent. I'm pissed at my stupid over-reactive immune system right now.

Not anymore. I used to carry it around everywhere, but luckily I'm not one of those super-sensitive types who eats microscopic amounts and goes into anaphylactic shock (or I'd never push it). I can feel it coming on and stop eating it. I may be very uncomfortable for a while, but it passes eventually.

Ugh Kim, that stinks! I'm not allergic to foods but anything in the air is fair game. I've now sneezed for weeks, I feel like I'm turning into a giant swollen head. bleh.

I'm going to echo the other posters and say - epi pen!!! It can't hurt to carry it with you!

I'm another allergic mess. I can't take the one drug that alleviates all the symptoms year round because it's not approved for use in my line of work

My allergy shots over the last 10 months haven't done crap for me except become a hassle.

Have you always had these food allergies?

Benadryl? Is that what you can't take? Just for the record all you epi pen pushers ;-), I do carry benadryl around with me. That's enough for my allergies. I'd really have to go hog wild munching some bell peppers to need an epi pen.

No, I haven't ALWAYS had them. When I was a kid, I did, but I was never any more than itchy. My folks didn't believe me... they just thought I didn't like fruits and veggies. They faded as I got a little older. Then when I was 16, my family moved to CO and they were back with a vengeance. I tried allergy shots too and they weren't anything but a big hassle, but I really didn't give them enough time to work (a little over a year). I'll try again when I'm more settled someday.

Funny story: When I was getting my allergy tests (the kind where they prick you on the back), they tested me for 56 things and I reacted to 54 of them (oh yeah, I'm a mess and of all things, I wasn't allergic to two MOLDS!!!!). It was agony, my entire back was so itchy it was like it was on fire. My mom was in the room with me and I'm laying on my arms so as to not scratch, just dying. Then all of a sudden, she just bursts into tears. I was like "What the hell are you bawling about?!" (I'm a good daughter...) and she said "I'm just soooo sorry I didn't believe you when you were a kid!!!" LOL!

So what are you allergic to? Airborne stuff or food? Or everything, like me?

Mine came up shortly after I turned 30. I was talking about Zyrtec.  Benadryl knocks me on my ass!

My last prick test showed I was allergic to various tree pollens, dust/dust mites, cat dander. That is the NASTIEST test.

That's so unfortunate that you're allergic to basically EVERYTHING! I just have a hard time sleeping in many hotel rooms with windows that don't open, and after about 2 hours in my work enviroment I am a mess from the recirculated air. You think they'd change the filters or INSTALL SOME (LOL). Just another great reason for me to change careers

OH and skin allergies. Eczema - also very new to me. That's always sexy. NOT.

I ahte my allergies and I can't take Anything either. I used to be on Allegra but I think it's banned. I can't take Benadryl because I'm out for 4 hours. I'm allergic to pollen so right as the weather gets nice enough to be outside I still have to train indoors. IT SUX.

Since moving to Houston last year, my 4 yr old son has been a mess. All year he sniffles and now that spring is here he's a worse mess. When he lies down at night he chokes on the phglem and ends up throwing up all night. The pediatricians have tried 8 different meds but I finally got tired of being up all night doing laundry and re-making beds (he throws up in bed 1 I change him to bed 2 get bed 1 cleaned and he's throwing up in bed 2)... that I made an appointment for him to be tested today and get shots to alleviate his misery. I'm sooooo hoping my husband gets another job someplace back hoem in the NE where is gets a good solid freeze and our son doesn't have to suffer year round and the benedryl for 2-3 months solves the problem.

I totally sympathize with food allergies - try being allergic to seafood of all kinds and not knowing until you work in a seafood market and develope hives from head to toe! Oh my, was that awful and every doctor didn't listen to my mom to test for seafood allergies... that was a horrible year and of course it was my freshman year in college... talk about misery!
