Subject: Knee Brace

I know somewhere recently there was mention of knee braces -- but I have lost that thread. It wasn't the focus of the thread anyway, so I think I am safe in starting a new one:-)

I don't know if I will have to wear a brace with this newly developed knee issue (possibly bursitis), but have wondered this question in the past as well. For those of you who do wear a brace, do you wear it for the swim leg as well? Do you practice in the pool with it on? Does is hamper your swim at all? What braces have folks found to be good?

Thanks, Nancy

hi Nancy,

here's the link, I saved it because I am going to order something for my knee too. http://www.kneepaincentral.com/Knee_Pain_Product_Lists/Products_Full_Knee_Brace.htm I don't know if you wanted that or not, but there it is again.

Thanks Ellen. That is the site I was asking about.

Now -- does anyone swim with any kind of knee brace or wrap? Or those who use one do you put it on in T1?

Ellen- it's a good thing you saved it, i was about to do another google search for the Stardox knee brace of mine, which i still have to name. The thread was something about minnesota.

Nancy- i don't wear a brace for the swim portion only for the bike/run. i wouldn't really recommend it, since the kicking isn't supposed to be stemming from your knee. the force of the kick should be coming from the hip, the knee should be on the straighter side...

Good luck with the knee brace Nancy- they're well worth their price.... i have had mine 4 years and counting- been washed many times, been through 7 tri's and multiple 5k's [too many to count].

Milly

Since your knee is not bearing anyweight during the swim, I wouldn't think that you would need to wear it.

Right, I was just thinking about the transition additional time to put it on.
