Subject: California couch potato just ran his first sprint triathlonHi Everyone, I just came across this site today. I ran my first Sprint Triathlon (3.1M run, 10M bike, 150yd swim ) yesterday, and I think I am hooked. I have spent all day looking up stuff about triathlons, bought a magazine, visited two different bike shops, and I already picked my next sprint: Tin Man at Cal State San Bernardino. I was a couch potato up until about 3 weeks ago when my neighbor stopped me as I was pulling in to my drive way. He asked if I would be up for it, and never being one to turn down a challenge I said sure! I currently own an old pair of running shoes, a mountain bike with road tires on it, and I swam in my basketball shorts. So you can see that I need alot of help with gear. My wife is excited but not enough to let me go on a shopping spree. I was happy with my time. I did a "mock" trial in my neighborhood using my neighbors swimming pool and it took around 1:40 to finish. Race day my time went down to 1:22. I hope to break 1hr with gear, training, and help from this site! Thank you for being here, I have read, and learned alot already. Can't wait to try the mentor program. --Rafael |
