What happened to road surface from 199th to Louisburg. I was on it today and it seems no more asphalt. I guess no more cycling on that rd.It was my frequent route. Just curious what do these county people think about their roads. I guess we need to roll back the time like 19th Century or about.

I'm not familiar with that area, but did they chip seal it? They just did that to a bunch of my regular routes this summer and it made it difficult to ride just about anywhere w/o having to head into heavy traffic areas first.

That is probably what it is. That chip and seal bull, I mean what century do these people live in. I think the modern society has moved to asphalt and concrete long time ago.

Yeah, first time I headed out on a road that had that I was getting pelted in the face constantly by the cars kicking it up. It was painful. I ended up calling the Public Works/Road Crew people. They said they leave it for a month or so, then brush it and paint it. But in the meantime.....We had to leave the county to find roads to ride on.  Hope yours clears up soon. I feel for ya.

This is unreal. Miami County roads people are bunch of morons.  Today I went for another ride hoping to dodge Old Metcalf rd. I head 175th, Old Metcalf.......199th, Holmes Rd, Louisburg, K68 to K56, turn back, Hillsdale Lake, get ready to turn left on Harmony Rd (part of Ultramax course), guess what, loose gravel/ chip and seal again all the way to Johnson County line on Gardner Rd. What a bunch of .
I am just wondering what are these people thinking, do they look around and notice that asphalt is the surface used in 21st century. Who gets this idea to poor gravel over the roads man, it is killing me. I am riding my 6000$ bike over that , makes me want to cringe.
So, sorry for the rant. No more Miami County for me and no Ultramax 50 next year unless they pave their roads.

Governmental budgets are in the shitter right now, if you haven't noticed.  County and City governments are cutting corners left and right (I know first hand because I work for the "man").  I would rather ride chip and seal than the pot hole, crevice and crater style roads you find around NE Miami Co.  You will even find that JOCO is going the way of chip and seal if you venture out to the far western edges of the county.  I will say that chip and seal smooths out over time.  Just look at the Kansas 70.3 course.  It is 90% chip and seal, just nicely worn.

You know, 70.3 KS has good surface, no complaints there. But what these people in Miami County are doing is not that. They lay down that loose gravel in hope that enough car traffic will smooth it out. There were no pot holes on either road prior, so that argument does not stand.Loose gravel was left on the same road south of Louisburg over a year ago and still is the same now. So, that is what I am talking about. Budget issues, I don't doubt that even though "I haven't noticed it" as I live in Lala Land.If 70.3 KS is chip/seal than it is done correct, but this is work left not finished or worse left as it is. That is some redneck advising county how to save money on roads and roll back the clock in time, that is what it's sounds to me.

The roads will totally suck until they brush them and repaint. Again, we had all our roads out by us trashed...er, I mean fixed, a couple of months ago. I was just out on the "chip and seal" roads yesterday, and they are fine again. Not perfect, but certainly good enough to ride on. Call your County Public Works people and find out when they plan on brushing the roads. I think they left the chip and seal stuff on for about a month. Hope you get a good answer from them.

Thanks for your response. I got their phone number and will call them. If 70.3 KS is that same surface, than it is done very well and will not bother at all.
