If only I lived in the south Okanagan... not sure I can justify another race trip up that way this season... Walnut Grove (albeit a shorter event) is a lot more cost effective at this point in the year

Just back from Penticton last night.. 3 day training camp... and heading back to volunteer at IMC!

But you never know... I've done a few spontaneous race registrations over the past 12 months..

I think I'll do the sprint for fun this year.  Not trained enough to go hard for anything.

I have a few questions for anyone who has done the Apple Tri before.  What is the bike course like comparison to say Oliver?  Hilly?  Also any idea what the water temperature is like?  Wondering if it will be wetsuit legal or not!  Thanks!

Second the swim being wetsuit legal question.

I live in Vancouver and swim in the ocean, so it's been a couple of months since I have swam without it.

For the swim across the lake a few weeks ago the water temp. was 18 degrees.  Wetsuit cut off is 22 and we have had some mighty warm weather so I am going to plan for not wetsuit legal and bring my wetsuit along just in case.

Bike course - I'm assuming for the Oly - has 3 loops. There is one short steep hill climbing up the first section of Knox, kinda of like the big hill in Oliver (500m long) and then some rolling and a fair amount of gentle downhill. It's a nice course.

Here's a link to the elevation profile of the sprint course.  It's the same course as the Oly but is missing the out and back section up Glenmore.

It's hard to say about the wetsuits. Across the Lake Swim website normally posts the lake temp daily but haven't for 3 weeks.  It was 18.5 at that time.

We usually have temps in the 30's in the summer and still have a wetsuit swim but 2008 was a hot summer and they went no wetsuits at the last minute.

The water at Gyro is pretty warm but I swam at Tugboat Bay yesterday and it felt cooler than Gyro.

I suggest being prepared for either option.

Update - water temp at Gyro is 21.5 C this morning and that's after the big rain storm last night.  Tugboat Bay can't be far behind. Better plan on no wetsuit, but bring it along just in case.

Thanks for the info on the water temperature!!  Any good suggestions for pasta dinner besides boston pizza (assuming they are going to be crazy! :P)?
