OMG!  I have that problem.  I didn't know it was a disorder.  I always said if I got robbed on the street I wouldn't be able to identify the suspect.  I am prosopagnosic.  How do you say this word now?

Yes, but can you recognize your family and friends by their faces?

err... I have had episodes of not recognizing my brother and mother at unfamiliar places.  When my Dad shaved his moustash, I didn't recognized him.  I thought it was because I was so young at that time (1st grade?) that I didn't put much thought to it.  I confused my dad with my uncle who looks pretty familiar.

I do tend to recognize people by their hair, clothes, gestures etc more than their faces.

Cool, kinda. Then maybe the 2.47% statistic ISN'T an entire load of crock. Seems high, you know? But then you think about how people would compensate: voices, clothes, etc...

How about this business of not being able to follow movies or TV shows? Does that happen for you? It seems it wouldn't be impossible, as each character tends to have his/her own hairstyle, vocal qualities, mannerisms, body type, no?

I don't think I have this disorder, but I certainly have this problem quite a lot. For instance, I can't visualize the face of my parents or my sister right now because it's been a few weeks since I saw them. I don't think I'd have trouble recognizing them. One of my good friends teases me mercilessly because I didn't recognize her at all the second time we met. The first time we met, we talked for quite some time. I remembered her, what she did, the conversation, but I did not recognize her face at all so I told her we'd never met! That's actually most of my problem, people I've only met a few times will start talking to me and I'll just have to fake it till I remember that I know them.

However, I can recognize famous figures and people who are more than passing acquaintances by their faces and I can visualize people I've seen very recently, so like I said, I don't think I have this specific disorder, but I'm definitely deficient in this area....

Edit: And yeah, I definitely have problems watching shows and movies that have more than a just a few characters...

When I was a kid watching TV shows, I found I had difficulties distinguishing between characters.  If it was one of those old Chinese movies from the 60s, I blame the poor quality of the film.  If it was American TV shows e.g the Hulk, I thought that all americans look alike - except when he's turned into the hulk.  Better when watching those kung fu series in the 80s when each characters tended to dress the same way throughout the whole series.  But when the same actor/actress stars in another movie, I would not recognize him/her.  You know when people say "oh this guy here in movie X, he played that character in movie Y".  I can never do that.
