Pro 5892 , New Hampshire | Subject: RE: Endless pools The only real con is the price. Endless pools are not cheap, but they are really good quality and will last you a long time. If you do a lot of swimming, then you'll get good use out of it. It's really only designed for swimming "laps" though, so not good for kids/grandkids, etc. |

Are you wearing the full suit because the water is freezing? |

Regular 134 | Subject: RE: Endless pools Wife and I purchased a swim spa a few years ago. It combines an endless pool with a hot tub, 8' x 16' long 4k gallon, we keep it heated and enjoy it year round for both swim work outs and post race recovery, as well as regular hot tub relaxation. We love it, its cheep to maintain with chemicals and all, it doesn't cost that much on the power bill, only drawbacks are the initial cost, and getting a permit because its large enough to be considered a 'pool' instead of a 'hot tub' by our city so we had to make sure it was set back 6' from the property line and that we had a 6' tall fence with a lock around our back yard (which we already did) Here is a link to our swim spa: http://www.mirahottubs.com/index.php/hot-tubs/m-swim-series/m-16000 |

On the other, it seems that comfortable water temps for the two activities would be pretty far apart. How do you reconcile that? Edited by gary p 2017-04-24 10:47 AM |

It about 18ft long (18,000 litres of water) It is a propper swim tether than attaches to straps on your ankles - you dont notice them after about 4 or 5 mins Not heated and was about 8-9degs (46-49) if photo... and yep freezing .. even in full suit i lost the ability to count after about 20 mins - it never gets really warm maxed out at about 16 (61) But i love it

On the other, it seems that comfortable water temps for the two activities would be pretty far apart. How do you reconcile that? Its not perfect, but here in coastal Virginia we vary it by the seasons; Winter average outside temp 40F we keep the pool at 80F economical on power and plenty warm for hot tube or swim training. Spring/fall outside temp 50-70F we keep the pool at 90F Summer outside temp 80-95F we keep the pool at 95F that being said the pool can heat up at about a degree an hour, so if we know we want it hotter for hot tube usage we heat it up. it does hold heat very well so it cools at about a degree every 4 to 5 hours. again its not perfect, there are larger pool models out there that have a separate hot tub area completely divided from the swim spa portion, but that's two different filtration, pumping and heating systems = 2x$$ |

I like cool pools too (like ~26 deg C), but 8 or 9 is a little too chilly for me. So, even with your full suit, if your brain stops working properly after 20 min, how do you get in a quality workout? If I were crazy/smart enough to get a pool like yours, is it very easy to add a heater to get the pool to 26 deg. (assuming it is not super cold outside of course)? What makes you skip a heater?
