Dems all the way down the ticket, have the house for the first time in ages.  From what I hear it was a direct response to the presidential election and transgressions since.

Thought?

All politics is local. Having said that, apparently the dems did a good job motivating their base to get out and vote.

Had Trump gotten behind him and he still lost I think it would be more significant.

If GOP passes tax cuts and the economy is still growing I think the GOP will hold both houses next year. If they fail on taxes they are done.

All that aside, a lot can happen in a year....so I would not read too much into this. But it’s fun seeing the dems happy for a change.

* if they pass tax cuts that actually help their base.

If it gets picked apart by special interests and just turns into a handout for the ultra rich, it'll be a wash.  They'd be smart to give up some of their holy grail (estate tax) and focus on things that affect more people (AMT, standard deduction, marriage penalty).  But I'm not holding my breath.

I'd like to see carried interest loophole get fixed - something Trumo said during the election - but haven't heard anything since. But I think what you wrote here is right, they will pass a tax break bill that will drill a bigger hole in the debt, largely benefit the wealthy, have a minimal effect on average Joes, and Trump will claim a huge victory. I see this effecting the electorate minimally. What I see as the larger effect will be continued tweeting, divisive language, and re-litigating of the 2016 election out of the white house. Perhaps this election will be a bit of an eye opener that there is a very restive electorate out there and they need to respond to that. But I doubt that is going to happen.

I understand the Dems glee as they haven't won much lately but to take one election and say it means everything is hypocritical when they claim the the special elections they lost meant nothing.

Change comes and goes.  To expect the pubs to control everything for very long would be silly.  Especially when a year ago. we thought we had no chance to win.  At least that was my feeling.  I figured it would be another loss and boy was I surprised.  So being realistic, good job dems you won one.

I got a chuckle after reading up on the NJ governor winner Phil Murphy. A 1%er by definition and one of the very people the party is supposed to be against. Wall Street fat cat from Goldman Sachs. No worries, I'm guessing the democrats, in the interest of consistency, will fund a "Occupy Jersey" moment and block all the streets and bridges in an effort to get this millionaire removed from office.

Congrats on the victory y'all...

I heard on pundit say this was the beginning of the end of the GOP. LOL Seems like the reps said that about the DNC recently too.

Bingo, this stuff is all cyclical. The known unknown is that the GOP has Trump at the helm. This wouldn't make me feel very confident if I were on the right hand side of the field. All good for me, I just don't want the guy appointing any more to SCOTUS.
