o'dark thirty = 5:30am?

not 365 days a year that's for sure!

when I was in the military o'dark thirty did not mean 5:30am. o'dark thirty simply meant 30 minutes before any light began to illuminate the sky...which was usually about 1 hour before sunrise.

if i was told to be in formation at o'dark thirty, that meant 1 hour before sunrise.

in the civilian world, o'dark thirty seems to mean 30 minutes before sunrise when the sun has already begun to illuminate the sky.

if we were to finish an evolution by o'dark thirty in my unit using the civilian definition of o'dard thirty our unit would risk compromise, hence the difference in how it is used in the military and how it is used in the civilian world.

anyone else have different experiences?

Acording to my wife 4:30 is "What, are you crazy, the plows aren't even out yet"

You know you have had a huge life style change when you start seeing sunrise after getting OUT of bed and not before going TO bed!

The sun (which hasn't been seen a long time) does not rise until after 8 am here. That is way depressing. That means I have already put in a solid hour behind the desk.

ODark is the way my life goes these days....

Oh-dark-thirty is simply any time one wakes up that is ridiculously earlier than you're accustomed to. For some that might be 5:30 am, but for my 16-year-old daughter it's 11:30 am on a weekend.
