O.K. so heres the deal. I've been training regularly for a sprint tri since the twentieth of last month. I thought it had been longer, but I was wrong. I'm getting ready for one on sept 14th. I swam the 500 in 12 minutes 30 seconds. Not bad for me. I biked 15 miles in 61 minutes. I dealt with hills from easy to very difficult. About half of the ride was flat. Finally I walk/jogged 3 miles in just under 44 minutes. I didn't account for transition times as I was using the Y and had to use a locker room. No trishorts yet. Anyways there you have it. It took me one hour and fifty seven minutes. What do ya'll think?

Very nice.  I would not be surprised if you actually finish your sprint tri in less time than that.  Somehow I managed to do that.  Based on my training times, I thought that I would finish in about 2 hrs 30 minutes and actually finished in 2 hours 7 minutes.

Good luck with your race!

John

you haven't really been training for long so I reckon well done.

before my first sprint I did about 16 weeks training and finished in a painful 1 hr 41 on race day in very hot and hilly conditions with a 750m lake swim.

Keep your training going gradually increase your distances and remember to taper for the last week. Eat a good breakfast race day and above all else relax and enjoy yourself. You already know you can cover the distance so its all about fun and maybe shave a few minutes here and there and a PB is in the bag.

Good deal...

BTW, which Sept 14th race is this?  Are you in NC?  I too just just started training for my first sprint tri coming on Sept 14th at Tanglewood Park in Clemmons, NC - the Angels Race.  Was just introduced to this whole triathlon thing about 3 weeks ago.

Here is a link to last year's results of that race, although it is only a 300m swim.

If this is the one you are going to, hopfeully I'll see you there - I won't be hard to miss as I'll probably be DFL ...

I live in West Tn and I'll be going to a sprint tri in Conway, Arkansas. It's only a few hours away from home. Good luck in N.C.

My first Tri was in April 2007 in Lake Las Vegas.  Distances were .25 mi x 12.5 mi x 3 mi.  I thought I trained well and estimated it would take me 2 hours 40 minutes.  Boy was I wrong!!  It took me 3 hours 18 minutes, I was DFL, but I finished.  The course was VERY hilly and it was 107 when I finished.  I was in shock.  I really can't say that I had fun I think I just survived it.

I trained much harder this year and dropped 15 pounds before my race in June this year.  This year's race was .35 mi x 10 mi x 2.5 mi.  The course was flat and the temp was good.  My goal was to finish between 2 hours 20 minutes and 2 hours 40 minutes.  Well, I finished in 2 hours 1 minute, so I was very excited.

Your times sound great for the distances you listed.  As others said, keep up your training, you'll do great.

I'm surprised you went back for another race after your first experience. Good job.
