Just got vacation approved. Super exited about Cancun 70.3! Doing St. Anthony's May 1st and starting training program for Cancun May 7th.

Already got airline and hotel, now I just need some nice weather and obviously, most important, stay healthy for the race!

Why did you pick Cancun?  I live about 80km south of CUN and I have no desire to do it.  The run and bike courses are both ugly and boring.  I'm thinking of going to Veracruz for Fuga (swim starts from the (protected, non-one allowed) island Cortez landed on) and bike and run are rural instead or I'll just do my own (for mental peace of mind I can do a HIM).

Kathy,

Sorry I missed your post and didn't answer before.

I schedule one race of each distance for this year. Already did a sprint, yesterday completed St. Anthony's (Olympic)  and I'm registered for IMFL in November.

I needed an HIM somewhere around September and last year I did Augusta, GA which is only a 2hr drive for me. But I wanted to do something different and CUN's race course is similar to Panama City. Ocean open water with a run on the beach in the middle, flat bike and run. I know is going to be hot as hell, but summer here is no different. I am not going for vacation or anything, it's going to be strictly a training race and it fits the calendar. Hopefully I won't find it so boring and ugly, I am already committed!

Thanks for your input and good luck at FUGA!

Buena suerte, dale duro y disfrutala!

Awesome Brother, this is the best news this far in the year, I hope to see you there, I'm working my way to CUN, I'm getting serious on my training, trying to put some volume on it, so you don't have to wait to much on the finish line for me, lol.

I spent the spring break on Cozumel, I had the chance to do some ows and I'm telling you, It is fantastic, there's a lot of tropical fishes swimming all over the place.

So if the Navy doesn't allow me a few days off, I'll take them.

I'm pretty sure you did excellent in Florida.

Signed up again this year!! Since I will not be doing IMCOZ this year, this will be my A race. I will beat the heat!!!! I agree that it may not be the prettiest race in the world and it does not take full advantage of the surroundings, but it is a nice race and its a great challenge. Good luck with everyone's training.

P.S. Kathy, where do you live? I live in Puerto Aventuras.

Anyone planning on riding a rear disc?  I'm strongly contemplating it even though the official race website warns against it.

Not me, I know for sure Can Cun can get a little windy some times, I may try some 404 but I haven't made my mind yet.

I'm doing this race for the first time as a preparation race for Ironman Cozumel. It will be my third time doing this distance. I've done the Ironmaya 70.3 in Guatemala 2 times in the past 2 years with my best time being 5:22. My goal for Cancun is 5hrs. I would have to complete the swim in about 40 minutes or less, bike inside 2:30 and run inside 1:50. I know I can do this. There are 6 70.3 WC 2012 slots on offer for my age group (Male 35-39), the largest in the race. I hope I can get one. Last year's results show only 7 competitors in this group that finished inside of 5 hours.

Great race, very well organized. Volunteers in Cancun are the best!!! If it wasn't for them and aid stations packed with everything every Kilometer, I don't think I would have made it. The run was way too painful!!! So hot and humid. I actually got scared and shocked how unprepared I was for this.

Boxer, conrgats on finishing! This was only my third race outside of Belize and as I expected it was the best organized event I have ever participated in.  I took my family with me and it turned out to be the best family vacation we ever had. I'm doing it again next year.
