Is anyone doing the iron mountain next sunday, this will be my first triathlon and was wondering if any of you are wearing your wetsuits and if you use a transition mat and tub of water to wash your feet, im new to all of this so any help would be great. Thanks

Just did the Oliver Half last weekend.. so I'm taking a pass on doing Iron Mountain

Not sure of the lake temperature, but guessing it will be a wetsuit swim.. particularly if you are doing the Olympic distance event..

I use an old yoga mat for my transition set-up, because I can fold it over my gear.. to protect it from rain.. I don't normally rinse off my feet.. just use a small, old hand towel to wipe them off.. Try to keep your feet as dry as possible once out of the water.. as you want to avoid blisters & chaffing

Hope this helps..

I also just did Oliver HIM last week so am considering doing the Iron Mountain race. I live literally 5 minutes away so it would be a shame not to (depends on how the legs feel later this week !!!).

I did the race last year, its a nice, well organised race and is well worth doing.

With regards to the lake, Whonnock Lake was not too warm a week or two ago when I did a quick OWS, I would wear a wetsuit (and did last year).

You run from the lake, across a small sandy beach and on to grass transition, so best to bring a bottle of water to rinse off any sand and use a towell to dry them off to avoid blisters.

The bike course is a tad challenging, there are some nasty hills on the back 20km.

Kind regards

Stephen

Not overly familiar with the area or course..

Does the bike route include sections on Dewdney Trunk?

Yes, it goes along Dewdney Trunk Road - see route details below:

Exit via Graham road Turn right on 112 ave, Turn right on 272nd,Turn right on Dewdney Trunk Road, Go past 284th street, Turn right on Wilson, Turn right on Lougheed Hwy, Right on 240th ST, Right on 102 Ave, Left on Jackson RD (turns into 248th St), Right on 108 Ave, Left on 249 St - Lockwood ST, Right on 112Ave, Left on 256th St, Right on Dewdney Trunk Road, Past 272nd , Right on 287th St, Right on 116 Ave, Right on 112Ave, Right on Graham St back into transition.

Its a nice course, it is a tad hilly though in places.

The run course is mainly flat and the weather is not crazy hot usually, which will be a relief after the heat in Oliver.

I took a drive out there today to take a look at the bike course, Looks fun, it was my first time at Whonnock lake, lots of floating markers everywhere, does anyone know if you swim within the swim rope thats marked or will it be changed ?

Hi Anthony, I was there yesterday as well. The swim course will not use the ropes and such which are setup (those are part of a kayak course)

They will have swim buoys in the water to mark the course, it's a big triangle apparently. Long out, short across, long back. Counter clockwise so we're away from sun directly in front. 1 loop for sprint, 2 loops for Oly, beach start.

I'm going to try and get in a swim there this week. Let me know if you're interested. I need A LOT of open water practice

cheers.

Anyone else doing the Iron Mountain triathlon this Sunday?.......you cant register on line, however you can register on Saturday still (no race day registration).

I'm still considering it, waiting to see what the weather will be like, so will likely register on Saturday at Whonnock Lake if the weather will be dry.

Good luck to all of the participants and hope its a good race.
