To you it is Valentine’s Day.....to me it is Wednesday.

So help me understand.....St Valentine was a priest. How did a celibate priest become the patron saint of courtly love?

My wife and I have never exchanged a single gift in 22 years of marriage. Not Valentines day, mothers day, fathers day, xmas, b-days, NOTHING.  We did it for a few years when we were dating, but we both felt like  it was stupid so we just made a deal and quit doing it.  I might use the day to buy myself a new fishing rod though.

Who was St. Valentine's and how did he come to inspire valentines day?

For the record....my wife and I don't celebrate it either. It's now just another manufactured holiday. I do enjoy going out and watching men in a mild panic on Feb. 13th running around looking for something to get their significant other. The social oppression ready to burst out of them. And like most men...all they can think of is what society has ingrained in their hard wired minds...chocolate and roses.... which every wife must smile politely and pretend its exactly what they wanted.

I think I got my wife socks once...years ago.

I once got my wife a garage door opener for Christmas. She cried. Not in a good way.

She was always complaining about us not having a garage door opener so I thought it would be an awesome surprise. Boy was I wrong! I took it back and got her a compound miter saw. Just kidding about the saw.

So my wife got me a valentine card and a balloon yesterday. I didn't get her anything.....felt kind of bad but not really.....we very seldom exchange gifts. For years we both worked at Boeing and years ago I gave her this stupid ceramic vase with a stuffed bunny for valentine's day.....left it on her desk. The next years I got it back on my desk. We did this for about 10 years with it going back and forth.

One more valentine story. 25 years of so ago I got a valentine card signed simply, 'you secret admirer'. I immediately called my wife to thank her for the card. Big mistake! Turns out she did not leave the card! Had a hard time convincing her I had no idea who cold have left the card.
