I finished my first Sprint Tri today. I had a blast. I've already signed up for another Sprint in early October. Since this race will be in a mountain reservoir and I'm an old guy beginner (55), I'd really like to find a low end wetsuit to get me through the race plus a couple of years. I've looked at some of the online sources, particularly a site that has rental suits for sale a a good discount. I've also seen some good prices on new suits. What kind of luck have you guys had with purchasing online for your first suit? No...Going without is not an option I want to take. Thanks.

I bought a Promotion wetsuit and really like it.  You also get a 10% discount as a BT member!  They had the best range of sizes available and I really like the suit.  http://www.wetsuit.com/
Can't beat the price.

I ordered mine from trisports.com.  There is a BT discount for them also.  Main reason I ordered from trisports was b/c you can try it out and return it if you don't like it.  So thankful as I hated the first wetsuit i tried!  The second wetsuit i ordered from them is a Blue Seventy Reaction Sleeveless & I'm happy!

wetsuitrental.com also has a good program where the fee gets applied to the purchase and xterrawetsuits.com are usually the best online deals as BT members usually get 50% off.

Being a newbie, I purchased a Neosport Sprint John off ebay at the end of last season. It was from an online retailer not a private individual. The fit is OK. It cost a whopping $65 -- shipping included. At less than the cost of 2 rentals,  I figure it is a bargain. If I tear it up no biggie. If I don't, I can pass to a new triathlete when I upgrade.

just my $.02....

x2 on the trisports return policy, very happy with mine as well.  Shipped the 1st back and got it right on the 2nd try, no problems.

Highly recommend Xterra.  They have been excellent to work with.  They got me a Vector Pro X2 over night to me on Friday.  I have now purchase four suits from them and every transaction a pure pleasure.

Just buy the Xterra on sale. You will not beat $99 for a high-quality, race-proven longjohn wetsuit anywhere, let alone with their amazing 30-day guarantee return policy and warrantee. I bought one a few months ago and it's been awesome. I think the sleeved one is on sale for an unbeatable $150 right now as well.

Another +1 for Xterra. I chatted with them a bit about sizing, then ordered my suit. It shipped 2 hours later. Sizing was perfect when it got to me.

+1 for Trisports. Although I didnt have to send mine back, the policy was very comforting and straightforward.

To by anything other than an Xterra for the deal going right now would be silly, the sleeveless costs less than three rentals.

I bought my Xterra Ventialtor three years ago and it's still working fine.

I just bought a full Synergy Endorphin "Used" from wetsuitrental.com
Kristina has a really good track record for fitting you "over-the-phone". I was shocked by the quality of this suit for the $ I paid... although used, it is like-new in every way. I had read reviews, manufacturers specs, fit charts, etc... and Kristina steered me to a size that was slightly different than what I would have selected... the fit is absolutely perfect!
Their used prices are good, and they ship fast. Highly recommend.
