Hello! I'm Janie, and I've decided to try the Danskin tri here in Seattle in August. I've never done anything like this before, and I'm very nervous. I've spent the last year of my life in massage therapy school, graduating last Friday, and now I'm ready for new challanges! I hope to make new friends here and get lots of greatadvice and encouragement.

Welcome to the group Janie! Congrats on your decision to do the tri. You've got plenty of time to train and lots of reasons to be motivated. Any time you need a mental boost, you've go plenty of friends here who can give it to you. As far as the nervousness, that will pass after the first race. Then you will wonder what the big fuss was all about! If it helps to calm your fears, just remember that you can enter the event with the following philosophy; you have only one important competitor in the race and that person is YOU. Race against yourself, for your own personal enjoyment, and the satisfaction that you are doing something that 99.99% of the people in this country can't do. Feel proud of your accomplishment and keep those thoughts in mind as you train. Train hard, trust your instincts and abilities, race within yourself, and save something for a strong finish. Then come back and brag about it to us...we'll be more than happy to listen to every word.

Way to go gal...you rock!

Welcome Janie -- you'll do great. Enjoy and savor every minute of your first triathlon -- you only get one! And no matter what, it WILL be your personal best. So have fun. Glad to have you here -- you will find lots of info and help. I too am in the Seattle area -- mukilteo. The Danskin is held when I am usually on vacation, so I have not done one. Also, I like the smaller races and have chosen those.

Good luck, Nancy

Welcome to the boards . . .can you do that massage thing on-line?  could be a whole lot of potential clients on this board if you could.

I met someone this weekend who did the danskin in austin for her first tri.  she said it was a great experience with lots of camraderie - the best for beginners.  good luck.

Janie, I'm doing the danskin in Denver and like you have never done one and I'm not much of a swimmer. This site is a bit addictive it has so much information and it's great to see what everyone else is doing. As you've probably noticed, there are raw beginners to folks with one heck of a lot Tri-mile under there belt. Congrats on school and welcome to the next chapter of your life!!

Hi Janie! I'm new to the sport as well. Tomorrow is my swim day and I'm sort of nervous about it. I'm going to try to make at least 300-400 meters without stopping, but I think it's going to be tough.....Anyway, happy training from one rookie to another!
~Dorian

p.s. Isn't this site awesome?! It has made me even more pumped about my training than ever!
