Subject: Hello from Bellevue
Hey everybody!  I'm stationed at Offutt and just got into triathlon.  I haven't done one yet but I've been swimming and running for years.   I wanted to compete in the black squirrel but I'm not ready for it and will probably just go to watch all you guys tear up the course.  I'm shootin for the Peregrine Charities Triathlon in Waterloo on Sept 27 but we'll see.

I see a lot of you guys have running and cycling routes saved on this site.  Does anyone know of any open water swimming locations?  Well, like I said I'm new to this and am all ears for any tips and tricks.  Thanks and happy training everyone!

As far as OWS in the area, your choices (besides private lakes like Beaver Lake & Woodcliff) are: Lake Manawa, the state park in Lousville (Twin Rivers, maybe? ask aliclimb), and Linoma Beach - but watch out for that iceberg, I hear it's a killer (literally)!

Hardly an Olympic Triathlon...The swims just a 1000 yards (nearly 600M short of Olympic distance) and the Bike is 5 miles short too...The run at 6 miles is the only one that comes close to the classic Olympic Distance....

Hardly an Olympic Triathlon...The swims just a 1000 yards (nearly 600M short of Olympic distance) and the Bike is 5 miles short too...The run at 6 miles is the only one that comes close to the classic Olympic Distance....

Here are the Olympic distances:
1.5KM swim
40KM bike
10KM run

Converted to the imperial measurements they are:
1,640 yard swim
24.85 mile bike
6.2 mile run

Black Squirrel is:
1,000 yard swim (640 yards short like you said)
21 mile bike (3.85 mi. short, so you were a little off there)
6.2 mile run (dead on, as far as I can tell)

So, with a total difference of about 4 miles, I think it would be safe to say you're closer to the Olympic distance than a Sprint (difference of 15+ miles). But really aren't there better things to worry about? Like... TRAINING!!! :-D

Thanks for the replies, now as for entering in black squirrel goes, I'm not sure.  The run seems like it's gonna be my downfall anyway so we'll see.  But competing or not I will definitely see you all out there!

Nicetri, I assume those workouts are open to anyone or you wouldn't be telling me about them.  Is there a POC?  I don't have facebook.

Stay Motivated!
