Master 1572 Baltimore | Subject: Is anyone actually having iPhone 4 antenna issues? i think because this is Apple, its been made a bigger deal than it needs to be but anyway. Is anyone actually having a problem though? I mean, I can replicate the problem...if I press on that black band they talk about, I can see the bars drop. However, I've never actually had an issue while using the phone (and even though I'm righty, I hold my phone in my left hand and cover the black bar frequently). I'm a little disappointed overall, because I have the same deadspot in my house I had with my last iPhone (which I blame on ATT, since my roommate's Verizon phone is OK and my friend's non-iPhone ATT phone has the same issue as me), but can't say its worse or point to a time when I've dropped a call I would not have expected to drop before (i.e. I'm in the known deadspot), and i've had the phone since it was first released. Actually, I can't say I've dropped a call yet except for in my house deadspot. Has anyone had concrete issues? NB: I recently added a very slim case, not cause of the reception, but just protection. $30 for that POS bumper Apple sells is ridiculous too. I got something similar except with a back for $3 shipped online (and 10 screen protectors for $4). http://dealnews.com/categories/Electronics/Phones-Cell-Phones/i-Phone/491.html?filter=c:491;&e=0. Apple/ATT mark this stuff up like 1,000%. Guess the press conference today will answer all! oh, and one last thing...no one's forcing anyone to buy an iPhone...if you don't like it, a) don't buy it or b) if you've already bought it, return it (you have 30 days to return it, and since they've only been out since June 24, everyone with one still can). the fact that people get so up in arms about what Apple does or does not do with their products astounds me...if you don't like it, don't buy it! Its a free market! Rant over. |

No case, and I also hold it in my left hand. While I'm sure that some people are having issues, I do agree that it's getting overblown because it's Apple. This is my first iPhone (former Verizon customer), and I'm wishing I had switched several years ago. Our reception is better, sound quality is better, and the phone...oh my god, I love my phone. Pathetic, I know. |

Regular 87 Madison, MS | Subject: RE: Is anyone actually having iPhone 4 antenna issues? This is a definitely overblown issue because its the iPhone, and everyone loves to hate on anything Apple. There is an issue there, I can reproduce it in areas that have very little signal. Is it a problem? it hasn't stopped me from making or receiving a call yet anywhere that my old 3Gs or any other at&t phone could. Today in the press conference they should talk about it, if it is a real hardware issue, I expect apple will do something to correct it |

Don't have the issue, have not experienced the issue and seem to have the same, if not better, reception that with my last iPhone. I do have a bumper on it but I got it for the protection, not to address the reception issue. I agree that this is more about hating on Apple than anything else. It may be true that there is an issue but it seems to me that it is being blown out of proportion. |

ColdBrew - 2010-07-16 7:05 AM This is a definitely overblown issue because its the iPhone, and everyone loves to hate on anything Apple. That is because Apple actually makes products that are easy to use and WORK, so when there is an issue, it stands out. People don't seem to hate quite as much with a Microsoft product because they expect to have a bazillion problems. I mostly just hate on my blackberry - what a poorly designed product. However, work pays for it, so it isn't so bad |

Pro 3932 Irvine, California | Subject: RE: Is anyone actually having iPhone 4 antenna issues? Like you, I could reproduce the drop in signal strength if I held my iPhone just the right way. But I never experienced any dropped calls. I have a case on it now anyway, so I'm not very concerned. |

Extreme Veteran 928 Chesapeake, VA | Subject: RE: Is anyone actually having iPhone 4 antenna issues? I have had mine since the 19th of June and never had a problem. as a developer I can see where they had a software issue. when you look at iOS4's way of converting the strength to the way 3.3 did, it is different. So WOW everyone gets free bumpers... wooohooooo. with over 3 million sold, good luck getting a bumper anytime soon, and good luck finding anything but a black one. really I think the problem has been blown out of the water by iphone non users... and I am neutral, I have developed apps for both iphone and the android market... I like both, own both, but hands down.. iphone4 and iOS4 WIN! |

Extreme Veteran 490 London | Subject: RE: Is anyone actually having iPhone 4 antenna issues? I'm the Chief Geek at our place and am in the process of testing / issuing for field test about 20 - 30 iPhone 4 handsets. So far I've had one person mention the signal issue but that if on iOS4 not the patched version. Told him to get a case and he should be ok as he's a lefty. The more worrying issues from an IT point of view if the way the unpatched version places a HUGE load on servers (had one almost die), has been known to corrupt mailboxes and lose e-mail completely. Hopefully this has been addressed in the iOS 4.0.1 release but we'll see. I'm just letting out the next batch and patching the phones as we speak. So far I've had a 33% failure rate for the update on brand new phones straight out of the box. Wonderful. |
