Subject: IMC rumour mill - 2013 location

Rumour is that all BC prospects have rejected hosting IMC, just too much to sign off on by Sept 24. Now they are taking bids from Strathcona County, Sylvan Lake, and Cold Lake. Stay tuned.

If I had to guess, I would have to say Sylvan. They already run a couple of races there, lake is somewhat clean and they have the infrastructure to handle the influx of people being right next door to RD and 90 minutes from 2 international airports.

but the hotels in Sylvan? How could they handle that many people.

Calgary? I know logistically ghost lake would be horrible though.

Red Deer, 10 minutes away, plenty of hotels.

Honestly, Sylvan does not appeal to me, but I that is just me. I grew up in Red Deer...

Ya I guess Red Deer would work. I guess I just like Penticton. Majority of the people could walk to the race start. Big downdown festival,etc.

If everyone is staying in Red Deer, Sylvan businesses won't get the $$.

Agreed 100%. I am surprised that it is west orientated(based on OP).

Unless people are shooting for Hawaii, Challenger Penticton should still bring the people in.

Travel is the issue for me. I dont have the cash for five day minimums in BC nor do I want to go for a week ... I want to use my days off to enhance my training. I can take tge kids camping afterwards or way before...

Nah. No longer a 'hometown' race for us Calgarians. Whether you do Mt. Tremblant, Wisc, Florida, IMCDA, Arizona, or Whistler, they are all flights from Calgary. So no incentive to stay in Western Canada for a MOP'er. If I was a fastie, I'd be all over Whistler this year trying to get those extra Kona slots.

I was taking 2013 off IM's, but we'll see what 2014 brings.

I might be fast enough to KQ but can't afford to race 2 140.6 in the same year right now both financially and time wise. I have a window to do 2013 as 2014 is off the table. Montreal hosts FINA masters worlds for swimming so that's way more important to me than a sub 10:00 or 10:30 iron distance race. I believe I have legit podium potential there since I am top 10 in the world in my AG in several events... (200 Fly, 400 IM, 800/1500 Free). I want to spend that season with a major focus on swimming. I will probably race some Sprint tris and maybe Xterra depending on where dates line up, but swimming will be priority 1.

idaho is a few hours closer...7 or 8ish from calgary. I guess it all depends on how quick you want to get there. I have a 5 and 7 year old. Vcr would be a 2 day trip for sure.

Planning for a 2 day drive for sure... Day 1 on the way out to Hope. Day 2 the rest of the way. Kids are 2 & 5 so yeah... theres some pain involved but less than this years trek to Minnesota.
