Subject: Bike Size on a P2C?
So I finally narrowed it down between the Felt B12 and P2C. I am going to go with a P2C. The only question that I have now is should I get the 48cm or the 51 cm. I am 5'5 and ride a 51 rode bike. I tested both out the 48cm seems like the correct fit but the fitter said the 51 would be the right size. I wanted to see what size tri bike most people around the 5'4, 5'5 ride. It feels like I am in between the two sizes. Thanks for any advice. In regards to the size of the wheels I dont care if I ride 650 vs 700, I just want the bike that fits the best.

I'm 5'7 and ride the P2C in a 51cm. According to my fitting when I was measured for the bike my torso length is slightly longer than average for my height and my leg length is slightly short for my height (one of the reasons the cervelo fit me the best).

Thanks for the info. How do you like the bike?

What size tri bikes are people 5'5 and shorter riding on?

I'm 5'8" and also ride the 51cm P2C. My road bike was a 52cm. I'm also a female and have the typical, no torso all legs physique.

I am 5'5" and ride a 51cm P3C.  Fits like a glove.

Thanks Robyn. Were you able to ride a 48 cm P3C as well for comparison.

I'm 5 5'1/2 and ride the 51.  I also ride a 51 or 52 road bike.  It fits me just right.  I had a professional bike fit with one of the best in my area.  Confident I am on the right bike.

Todd,

I am 5' 8" and ride a P2C 51cm. When i was fitted I was really trying to get the 54 but the LBS would not sell it to me. He said said the 51 was the best fit. I have short legs and a long torso. Now my daughter is 5'3" and rides a 48 P2-SL and it is just a touch big for her but she is only 12 and has some growing to do.  I am thinking about upgrading to a P3C so my P2C would be avalible for sale, if you are interested. I bought it in March of this year and it has 1 Oly and 2 sprint races on it. I love it but like Ricky Bobby says I wanna go fast(er). So give me a P3C! The wife is gonna kill me.Laughing

LOL

BTW my road bike is a 52cm Serrota

Nope... but I have a 48cm road bike that is too small for me.  I was fit and basically had my choice of a 51 cm Cervelo or a 52 cm Felt, if that tells you anything.... see fit below (excuse trixie's bagel.)

Ummm, I would go with what your fitter recommends.  Or if you don't trust your fitter for some reason, than I would go see another fitter.  It doesn't matter what anyone else rides, unless you have all their fit information (lot more complex than X tall and slightly shorter than most in the leg department) and you are virtually identical (and even then some minor thing could make a big difference in your fit).

I don't have a P2C, but I have an SLC-SL that has very close geometry. Cervelo does away with a lot of the notion of "traditional" bike fitting about standover height, etc. I ride a 55cm Bianchi road bike and my SLC-SL is a 51cm. Quite the difference, but the SLC fits like a glove. I have ridiculously long legs and a short torso I'm 5'7" and have a 35" cycling inseam (!). My 55cm Bianchi looks better for seatpost height, but I am very stretched out and don't think I would be able to get comfortable using tri-bars on that bike.

The SLC-SL on the other hand has a short top tube and would be perfect for tri-bars. The down side is, it looks odd since the seat post sticks up so far for my freakish long legs, but just feels good. I would follow the recommendations of the fitter, but ensure they take into account primarily the top tube length over anything else. You can only adjust a few cm here and there to make up for a poor fitting top tube, but have a foot of travel to make up for leg length.

If you notice on the Competitive Cyclist web site, they don't even publish the seat tube length for this very reason...

My .02 (not worth much these days

The thread is slightly old now, but I just wanted to add my input for anyone else who might come along.

I am a hair under 5'6" and I'm on a 48cm P2C. I was fitted on both a 51cm and a 48cm before the decision was made. I have short legs and a long torso and we couldn't even get the seat post correct on the 51cm without having to cut it down. I also felt very 'clumsy' on the 51cm... it just felt a bit 'big' compared to the 48cm. Once I got on the 48cm, it was like a breath of fresh air. In addition, I actually 'looked' better on it in the fitting mirror.

I've read a lot of these types of posts on-line and I hope that people in the 'grey' height area of 5'5" or so, insist that their LBS fit them on both a 48cm and a 51cm. I think 'some' bike stores will try to 'make' whatever is in their inventory 'fit' and since 51cm is a very popular size, it seems like that's what most stores 'have' in their inventory.

Shellabree-

Your last statement was what I was thinking. They had a 51cm on their floor and he said he could make it fit. Then he made a comment on 650 size wheels saying that I dont want them. He could be right that I need to be on a 51 but I hate when people jump to conclusions or just tell me whatever to sell a bike. Articles on slowtwitch and other FIST certified people have commented that a tri bike geometry and handling is much better on 650 wheels. I wish Cervelo would make a 51cm bike with 650 wheels like Felt does. Thanks for your guys comments and I am just waiting for Felt and Cervelo to release the 09 models before I make my final decision.

I'm glad I found this thread. I'm also slightly under 5'6" and have been noticing a lot of used 51cm Cervélo P2C tri bikes for sale. But I'm not sure whether I should go with the 48cm frame instead, and I wonder whether the local Cervélo dealer would do a bike fit if I plan to buy used rather than from them.

hrt4me,

i bought a used  P2SL for my daughter and the LBS Cervelo dealer fit it for her. It cost me 90 bucks because I did not buy the bike from them.

BTW I have a used 08 51 cm P2c for sale in excellent condition
