Subject: Increase Protein W/out Increasing Fat

I currently watch what I eat, but I just count calories.  I've lost about 6 pounds in 2 months eating whatever I want, just as long as I keep it between 1,500 and 2,000 cals a day.  (I also train 5-6 days a week.)

Having gone through my first season of tris this summer, I've really come to value the importance of the carb/protein/fat ratio in my diet, so I've started logging it and watching it over the past week.

I seem to have problems getting in more protein than I do fat.  So far today I'm at 46.3% carbs, 15.5% protein and 36.5% fat.

Can anyone give me some advice on foods to eat or ways to eat where my protein ratio is higher than my fat ratio?  I feel like I'm missing something.

Thank you all so much!

it is a matter of selecting lean protein sources.  by the look of your numbers, it looks like you aren't even eating enough protein to begin with.

add more fish, turkey, chicken breast, lean meat to your diet and that should correct any offset numbers - b/c as your protein intake goes up - that will lower the fat and carb numbers correspondingly.

x2. Legumes (beans, lentils, etc.) are also good sources of lean protein.

Ooo.  Super great ideas.  Thank you so much.  Yeah, I'm definitely low on the protein scale as it is, so watching this is an important goal in more way than one.

Cottage Cheese.

Low fat yoghurt.

Frozen shrimp

Legumes

Nuts (ok, high fat but if that's all main fat you are eating then it's fine)

Egg whites, chicken & turkey breast, tuna are all excellent sources of low fat protein. You can always use protein powder and make a shake but I prefer real food.

I don't eat meat or dairy or eggs and my protein ratio is higher and fat lower.  For me, I eat lots of beans, I'll eat soy yogurt, some faux meat products (although not a lot), high protein grains such as quinoa/couscous and a variety of green veggies.

I can't thank you guys enough.  I've started loading up my cabinets and fridge with most of these foods.  Really great suggestions.

Are all protein powders the same?  I have started adding protein to my smoothies and was wondering if there is a difference.

In my opinion, Optimum Nutrition's Protein Powders are the best...by far.

3 oz. of chicken is about half of a chicken breast.  I eat every 3-4 hours and try to get 3-4 oz. of chicken in at most meals.   I make a bunch, put 3 or 4 oz. portions into zip lock bags so they're easy to grab.  Gets boring, but it's so easy and very lean.

The 2 shakes I do if I don't feel like cooking some sort of lean protein are:

Muscle Milk Light in Chocolate Mint & Beverly International Ultimate Muscle Protein in Vanilla.  I order both from dpsnutrition.com.  The Muscle Milk in the blender with a bunch of crushed ice tastes like a mint mocha frappuccino from Starbucks.

beans bean they're... full of protein.  Also nuts, cheese, yogurt.  For breakfast I have a bowl of plain greek yogurt with fresh fruit and a handful of one of the high fiber high protein cereals with a packet of flax.  actually pretty tasty and good for you.  I also have beans on my lunch salad along with lean fish or meat.  Alternatively have a ribeye for lunch.

GREEK YOGURT!

This is just one brand, compare the 3 big brands (Chiobani, Fage, Okios) to find the lowest sugar ones:
