This will be my first tri.  I have a couple of questions for anyone that has done it before.

How long should I allow to get into the base?  The website says 30 min. but my friends said it took around 45min. this weekend during the mud run.

How much time should I allow to set up my stuff?  Would getting on the base an hour before be enough time?

I assumed that the swim would be running from the beach through the waves into the ocean.  However, I have heard that the swim start is in more of a bay so there are not really waves to deal with.  Is that true?

How hilly/flat is the run and bike?

Thanks!

Give yourself at least an hour to get on base. Last year if took a little longer than expected and we were pushing things.

If it's your first tri the more time the better. At least an hour is reasonable to park, check in and walk to transition. If things are like last year you will not be able to bring any assistance anywhere near transition. The Marines created a secure area and allowed participants only beyond it.

Swim start is a running start from the beach. It would be a good idea to practice swimming in the waves.

The bike course has some rollers, no "climbing." If you're training on pancake flat courses you'll notice the up and down, otherwise the course isn't technically challenging. The run course includes a slow and steady climb out of transition to the main part of the base and is flat until the finish line.

Thanks!

What she said.

I did this race last year (2nd tri ever) and had a blast. The Marines do a bang-up job. It's one of two races I'll be repeating this year.

A bit of advice- leave your bike in a low-ish gear when you rack it, since the start of the bike leg (and the start of the run leg, for that matter) is uphill.

I was there last year, and will be back again this year.  Be prepared for anything in the water, there were plenty of waves last year because it was an overcast morning that turned hot for the run.  Biggest hill of the bike course was to go up an overpass.

Tomorrow!

Haven't done any ocean swims or brick workouts this year, but should still be good to go.

Good luck everyone!  We are going to do awesome!  ...and if we don't do well we will have some great stories and words of wisdom to pass on to others!

I'm really looking forward to reading everyone's race reports because I'm thinking I'd like to do this one next year. What? Nothing yet?

Nice job to all who finished, and thanks for the race reports so far. I'm still not sure if I'll be in the area next year, but if I am this race is definitely on my calendar!

Thanks, I found them. I was checking individual race report buttons on everyone's posts and thought they would be in your race logs. Then I looked in the race report forum.
