Subject: Deer Creek Routes?

For this weekend's upcoming long ride, I need to include 2.5-3 hours of hills in the middle...Undecided

From Wads & Deer Creek, what does BT  suggest for me?  Likes, maps etc. would be helpful, thanks!

How long of a ride are you looking for?

Are you familiar with the Deer Creek Challenge? They have 3 routes that pretty much cover all the the JeffCo foothills roads. Check this out: http://www.deercreekchallenge.com/assets/files/Master_Course_072911...

I live along Parmalee Gulch road. One of my favorites would be for you to head up Deer Creek to South Turkey Creek, then follow that north, cross 285 to Parmalee, ride Parmalee to Kittredge, turn right on 74 and fly down to Morrison, then from there either catch the 470 trail or (my preference) head south on 8 and turn left just after the Fort restaurant. This takes you through Willow Springs which will lead you to Ken Caryl. Then you can ride this all the way back to Deer Creek Canyon road.

Other favorite roads: North Turkey Creek, High Grade, Ohelmann, City View..oh yeah and Kerr Gulch up to I-70. Most roads are paved. Traffic may not always be pleased but keep right, smile, and a wave will take you far.

I think indianhillsted has the right idea.  You can use the Deer Creek Challenge maps to piece together a ride of just about any distance.

You can make a big loop by riding Deer Creek Canyon to High Grade/Pleasant Park to Hwy 73, then Shadow Mountain/Brook Forest, then into Evergreen, Hwy 74 to Morrison, then back down the C470 Trail.

If you want to make it a little longer, instead of heading towards Morrison on Hwy 74, turn the other way and ride up to I-70, and follow I-70 back down to Hwy 93/Hogback Rd, into Morrison before picking up the C470 trail.

This has been a great help, thanks guys!

I had just started playing with the MMR Route Creator, so the feedback on where to go was very helpful. Is there any way to export routes form there, I couldn't find and support hasn't answered yet.

I was aware of the Deer Creek Challenge, but hadn't seen the summary map - that was also great help, thanks Ted!

Ray, a guided ride would be great, my problem this coming weekend is not knowing when Ill be heading out, I'm working things around the Tune Up Tri and kids activities...rain check though, definitely!

From my house in HR (Wildcat & Broadway) the top of Highgrade is 21.4 miles.  The out and back takes me 2.5-3 hrs easily.

Rick,

I'm near Quebec & 470, so that ride is 24-25 for me, we've probably crossed paths.  

Getting to Wads/Deer Creek is a ~14 mile warm-up, and I've done that same ride, just never explored beyond.  And despite the little warning voice, I need more hills...

Let me know if you're up for some weekend rides, maybe we can do a  hills tour with Ray!

Glad I could help. One more nugget of advice...

If you opt for Hwy 8 from Morrison back to Deer Creek Canyon through Willow Spring and Ken Caryl, look at Google Maps. From the south end of Will Springs drive there is a roundabout with a walking path to Ken Caryl (you cannot drive a car though here). It's only like 10 feet and is easy to miss. Then make sure you know which road gets you through KC. You will then go past South Valley Open Space park (which has water) and Lockheed Martin before hitting Deer Creek Canyon Rd.

I prefer this MUCH MORE than taking the C-470 bike path.

P.S. With MapMyRide, you used to be able to export routes as a .kml file (Google Earth). Maybe they don't have it anymore or not for free??

Found the export link, its "Export Map Data" on the Summary tab of a route's retails view.  Gives options for GPX, KML, or CRS.  Now to see about getting into Garmin TC and onto the watch...

Rick, I'll be there, riding a black/silver Roubaix and wearing a Colorado Endurance Project (CEP) kit.

Hoping for a better outcome than last year, flatted during the first loop on Wildcat Yell

I'll be there wearing a red & white PI Tri top.  I ride a white Cannondale SuperSix.  I did the SMD last year, this is my first time doing this one, should be fun.
