I signed up for the 70.3 Tri next year in New Orleans.  The Belmar one will be my first so i can work on some of my transitions.  I'm looking forward to it.

I live right by here; unfortunately won't be there for the race.  The course is flat, flat, flat.  The run probably has an elevation gain of ~1 meter - the distance to get up on the boardwalk.  The bike is similar.  A three loop course means that there will be lapping by the faster guys.

The ocean is hit-or-miss.  It's inside hurricane season; the surf could be 12+ foot, it could be ~1 foot.  Unless there's a storm, water in that area is traditionally pretty clean in the morning.  Wind should be minimal in the morning.

There will probably be a bunch of walkers out on the boardwalk, and it does get narrow at a few points, but hopefully people aren't clueless and will get out of the way at the choke points.

The lifeguards in town are quite good, both at lifeguarding and setting up courses.

The bike will be done by 7:40ish; mostly just locals there at that time.

looks like a fun race.  enjoy it.  Like another poster said, short of a storm off the coast the ocean swim shouldn't be too bad.  Hard to predict though.  Bike and run will be super flat and running on the boardwalk will be easier on your legs than running on pavement.

Hey everyone - does anyone know where transition is set up? Is it right next to the boardwalk in a parking lot somewhere?

Looking forward to the race...

I'm doing the duathlon.

The run is on pavement, not the boardwalk. The transition will probably be on grass by the Silver Lake (where the expo for Belmar 5 is).

From the swim it's going to be a decent run on the beach over the boardwalk and across the road to the transition area. I wonder if they will have showers or hoses to rinse off your feet?
If anyone did the Metroman in Asbury Park a few weeks ago this race will be very similar.
Good Luck to All!

The surf looks like it will be building nicely over the next 24 hours.  It'll mellow out a bit before Sunday morning, but there will almost certainly be waves to fight out and ride in.
