Heck, I could only assume that it will be warm considering the fact that it will be August.  If it's not warm by then, then it will never be warm.

It's a giant beach/pool so the water is warm.  Last year was not wet suit legal

Did it last year, the water was too warm for wetsuits, I would have to say it will probably be between 70-75 degrees.

As SKDickey said it's a giant outdoor pool. I'm planning to do this race this year as well,,,hope to see and meet some BTer's there!

I was either planning on doing this race or the Bangs Lake on the 9th.  I heard from a lot of people that Naperville is a great tri but then you read the race reports from 2008/07/06 and there is a lot of complaining about the swim setup.  I assume that some of you have done this race before, what are your thoughts?

I, too, have read and heard about the swim portion of this event.  I know there are parts of it that are really shallow so you may need to get up and run/jog.  There are also quite a few bouys to maneuver around also so I can only imagine the CF of people circling them.

yeah, thats exactly what I have read.....that it is basically a swim/walk/swim leg.  Around the middle of the "M" and guard tower it is so shallow that you have to stand up and walk around it with the masses.

Yup, it's true about the swim.  I did the women's only tri...same swim set-up.  Kind of zig-zags through a huge pool...lots of buoys to go around.

The Bang's Lake tri is great!  Did it last year and thought it was extremely well-run.  I highly recommend it.

This was my first tri,  I did it last year and was not sure what to expect anyway.

It does jam up around the buoys, and there are shallow spots that you can walk/jog on....I think the problem is that they don't wait long enough when sending people into the water. I wasn't real impressesd with the swim portion of the tri... even as a first timer! Other than that it's a well run race. The bike and run are both flat and fast courses. awesome local crowd support, plenty of volunteers, drinks, etc...

If you are a good swimmer and can get into the faster waves, you'll be alot better off, I don't think they have the same problems as the slower swimming waves do, and I don't believe they stand up at all!  (the water is deep enough to swim the whole thing, but some of the people in the slower waves that aren't as conditioned as others need to stand up and walk to catch their breath, needless to say, that's what starts the backup)

thanks for the info.  We are going to go ahead and sign up for it.  I will just do my best to get to the front and faster swim waves.  thanks.

The swim on the co-ed race is not the same as the women only race. The co-ed is only 400m and the women only race is 800m. The coarse is setup like an "M". You only have to swim around 3 bouys. The problem with the swim coarse is the way they start the racers. You lineup based on your swim time. You are not assigned start positions like other pool swim events. The big problem is that people lie about there swim time and start in front of faster swimmers. They then cause a huge pile up. So if you are a good swimmer, start as early as possible.

I totally agree with the above assessments.  I had considered not doing this one just because of the chaos from the swim last year, but the rest of the course was so enjoyable (and it only takes me 10 mins to get there) that I couldn't say no!

Swam at Centenial on Friday and I would guess temp was around 74. Little cool when you first jump in but great for a Tri. You don't want the water to warm. Nothing like sweating the second you step out of the water. Last year water temp was around 80 and at 7am it was much warmer than the air. It's been a much colder summer so I can't imagine the water temp getting much above 76 this year. No reason to wear a wetsuit though. The temp should be perfect.
