Subject: Quickstep Team Thread

Hi Team Quickstep,

Welcome to the Tour De France Bike Challenge 2008.

On the roads in France the Tour De France 2008 this is one exciting team to be on.

With their sprinter Tom Boonen unable to contest this years event the line up has been opened up to new possibilities without the single minded focus on the Green Jersey.

Having said that, sprinter Gert Steegmans is likely to get his first opportunity to compete for stage wins in a leadership role, he has in fact already won a Tour De France stage.

For the overall prize former national time trial champion Stijn Devolder will be out to have a go at placing well on the general classification.

On BT, your team line up for the challenge is:

1. 4everblue

2. Blueraiderzone

3. CoachH

4.DeputyDawg

5. esc

6. jacsuza

7. Need4speeD

8. triguynewbie

Now you have found the team thread, introduce yourself to your team mates below with some information which could include name, goals or info on your current bike(s).

Reporting for the challenge over the next three weeks will take place in three blocks matching the Tour De France racing days. The dates are as follows:

Week 1: 5th – 14th July

Week 2: 15th – 21 July

Week 3: 22 – 27 July

Your team has a tracking spreadsheet set up and active in google spreadsheet.

To open the spreadsheet click on this link: http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pfYL7DR_dx-DIO1UFQzVKQw&... />

To login to Google Docs:

Username: btchallenge

Password: challengeforum

You can update the spreadsheet at any time to track your own, and your teams progress. I will be grabbing each teams results to date and posting a challenge update that includes all of the teams progress and any interesting tid bits from the various team threads. This update will be posted at the end of the each reporting week listed above.

The winning team will be determined by the team with the highest percentage of goal achieved. No one can go over 100% of goal and if more than one team hits 100% then there is more than one winning team!

To remind everyone to post their updates, and I recommend that you nominate a team leader to help with reminding everyone to report in each week. But the job of inspiring and motivating your team mate really does rest with each individual so don’t forget to give everyone some regular encouragement here in the team thread and through inspires on training logs.

I will try to pop in regularly to see how your team is getting on. If there are any questions throughout the course of the challenge let me know, I will pop back in the next 24 hours with some additional information and rider profiles for your Tour De France team before the action kicks off on the roads of France.

Happy Pedaling

Cat

Hi All, Martin here, cycling nickname "Tom" after Tom Boonen, Quickstep's usual team leader. A Quickstep fanatic but not sure how they will fare this year. Watch out for Gert Steegmans in the sprints.

Down for 385 miles, with one mountain stage (I've got a challenge ride coming up on the 20th). Have started training for this challenge with 80 miles so far this month!

Hope to get to know you all soon and just one request. Please, please, post plenty of pics of your rides here, even if you're stuck in a basement on a turbo trainer.

Ok, I'll take the plunge and continue the introductions.

I'm Suzanne, a 45 yo woman with a husband, 2 girls (ages 6 and 11) and assorted pets including our two dogs who are my devoted running partners.  I've been an elementary school music/arts integration teacher for 4 years here in sunny, hot southern AZ.

I started triathlon training last August to combat the increasing numbers on the scale.  I love the people I've met since starting; both virtually here on BT and out in the real world.

The February challenge was my first one, and I've been hooked ever since.  I'm looking forward to this one and learning something about the Tour.  I'm down for 10 stages and 330 minutes.  (Sadly, due to the heat and family obligations, I tend to spend virtually ALL of my biking time with the "ever hot" Coach Troy.  I may try to get outside at least once during this challenge.  We'll see.)

 Who's next?

Hi Suzanne. Thanks for loading the links to everyone on your thread. I was having trouble & copied it. Must find out who this Coach Troy is. I have my suspicions.

Suppose I had better explain. CHR15 & I live in the UK. Were on the same challenge team a couple of months ago. Big biking nutters. He likes riding on poncy flat rides, whereas I always seem to be climbing. Please take that into account when you see my low avg MPH. He's on the CSC Saxo-Bank team so please feel free to pop over & give him some stick every now & then. Glad you put an extra pic on our thread CHR15. Perhaps I should repay the compliment.

Hey all,

I'm John (or J.T.). I just starting triing this year. I've completed 3 sprints. I have a 4th scheduled at the end of this month.

I'm from Murfreesboro, TN, just south of Nashville.

I think I'm down for 13 stages, 250 miles. This is going to be a challenge since my biggest month so far is a little of 100 miles, but I'm going to get it done. I realized after my last tri that I had the bike endurance, but I really need to work on my speed. Therefore, I need to up my miles. I wish the challenge started today because I just came in from a 20+ mile bike ride.

Hi team,

You have a 9th competitior lining up on your team - tlnewman30. Ir was an original sign up but I think I must have gone cross eyed and somehow missed him when I posted the teams.

Alright, so I am the late comer to the team.  Somehow I got missed from the orignal lineup, but that's ok.  My name is Travis, this will be my first official, non-causual challenge.  I am a Sgt in the Marine Corps, and have recently been stationed in Aurora CO from Scranton PA.  Due to still adjusting to the altitude difference and marathon training I am only in for 15 stages at 450min or 7.5hrs, depending on how you want to look at it.  I am excited to be part of this challenge.

Im a cycling fan... my allegiance is to no team! (except here on BT where I am about CSC for the duration of the challenge how can you not LOVE a team with Staurt o'grady on it?)

Might join you online for last hour+ like last year. Phil & Paul, that's normally our other channel's highlight programme commentators. Wondering if they are covering it live too here.
