I am looking to register for the 2009 Ironman Canada and thought I would start a quick discussion about how people who are not able to sign up in person have been awarded a spot. The information on the website includes registration the day of the 2008 event as well as the days after the event for those participants who live in the area (or travel there to sign up).

Well coming from dallas, TX - it is not really possible to fly up to the event for a day and register. I know the event sells out quickly, but can anybody give me an idea of how they were successful in signing up for the race?

This will be my first ironman race and you may say "go try a local IM event" - I do have special ties to BC and Canada in general (green card carrier).

Thanks

Your options are going to be:

Community Fund charity spot (these will go fast)
Qualify at Ralph's or one of the other races that have spots (these spots go fast)
Hope they offer a lottery, and you get lucky (they used to do this every year, but haven't the past two)
Do the Multisport.com training camp (they have a handful of spots you can buy in conjunction with the camp)
