Comments: I felt pretty good for my first race, but I need to shave at least 2 minutes off my time to be competitive in a tri. I can't really imagine running any faster after biking and swimming though. What would you do differently?: I started out way too fast. I maintained my starting pace through mile 2 but then ran out of gas and at least 20 runners passed me in the last mile because I just ran out of juice. ![]() Post race
Warm down: I walked around City Market for about 15 minutes. What limited your ability to perform faster: My lack of race training. I can run a 5K on the treadmill at the gym with no problem and then have enough left for a 45 minute weight workout but I had not done enough race-pace training to be prepared for this. Event comments: As this was my first race and I went by myself, it was a little overwhelming and, being the type that likes to be completely aware of where I am and where I am supposed to be, I got a little frustrated. Overall, though, I learned a lot and will be much better prepared for the next race. Last updated: 2005-03-09 12:00 AM

Being a novice at racing, I did not do anything special prior to the race. I ate my normal breakfast, packed some water and snacks in a bag and headed off.
None. I was running behind and did not have time to do much of a warm-up. That is probably why I'm very sore now.
