I love the site logging. I have seen no better program, especially one for it's cost.
As far as the training plans, the canned plans are very well thought out, and should work for some people as they are. They are great starting points for others to modify to create a robust, well thought plan for others.
Any way about it, whatever plan you choose should be thought more as a set of goals. Goals, to be successful, should be:
1
) realistic - don't think of trying an Ironman 12 week ramp up if you are a current couch potatoe
2
) achievable - don't pick a plan - unmodified at least - that requires 15 hours of training a week, when you know you only have 7 to train
3
) measurable - does it make you faster? What percentage of workouts have you completed
(should be 100% or close, if not see #2
)
If you want to be successful with your plan, you also need to be held accountable for completion of your goals. If you can do that with no help, fantastic. If not, find someone - your wife/girlfriend, best friend, training partner, coach or someone else to help hold you accountable for the goals you set.
If you have a good plan, and follow through, you will be successful. A good place to log your efforts, like the BT Training Logs, is a plus. If you like what you see on BT, a membership here is worth the $$$, less expensive than alot of other sites, and good insurance that BT will be around for many training seasons, many races, and many "Topic about Nothing" on CoJ for many years to come.
