Vancouver Open Water Swim
Hello Everyone,
I am not a strong swimmer, so when I signed up for the Vancouver Triathlon in September, I was a bit concerned about swimming in open water, never mind open salt water.
I found a group call the VOWSA
(Vancouver Open Water Swim Association
)
http://www.vowsa.bc.ca/
/>
I attended last night for the first time and it was a great experience. They do an approx 1.2km swim just off of Kits beach
(near Watermark restaurant
) every Mon and Thurs evening starting at 6pm. There are usually 60-90 swimmers in attendance. They have 2 life guards in boats to assist/rescue
(gives us newbies peace of mind
) and they are quite willing to buddy up if its your first time.
I would highly recommend it if you want to get more comfortable with open water swimming. The drop in fee is only $4. I'll probably do a couple more before the Vancouver Tri.
BTW, if you are a strong swimmer you can do upwards of 4 laps.
Good Luck to all.
