I just booked the Days Inn on Connecticut.  Its just down the road from the official hotel and seems to be close to the start.   ($62.00 / night)

Can anyone familiar with the area let me know:  1)  Is the hotel a dump or in a crappy location and 2) am I close to the start?

Thanks,
Bruce.

1) I can't say if the hotel is a dump, but it's in a decent location, close to the Zoo and Rock Creek Park, you shouldn't have any issues.

2) You aren't real close to the start, not walking distance anyways. I would consider taxi. I was thinking you could take the metro, but they don't start running until 7 on weekends, so looks like you're stuck with the cab, if you don't have a rental car. Cab will run you about $10-15 dollars, the max fee is $19 when you stay in DC.  Otherwise, it's going to be a nice 5 mile warmup jog.
