Subject: I love running
sooo much. It's changed my life. I ran trails and hills today. Trails and hills. I'm not super fast but I'm not super slow either. My average road pace is about 8 mins/mile. My average trail pace seems to be about 9 mins/mile. I want to get my trail pace up to my road pace by the wildflowers race next year. Anybody done wildflowers? From what I've read, I'm shooting for not walking any of the run first of all, and if I can maintain an 8 min/mile pace I'll be stoked. What do those who have run that race think? Achievable in 9 months? I have yet to see just how steep those hills are!

Hiya,

In case you didn't see it, I was reading this thread earlier.  I thought it had some interesting stuff w/r/t running speed.  If this link doesn't work for whatever reason, the thread is in Triathalon Talk and is called (appropriately enough) "Increasing Running Speed".  It's about 2/3rds down the first page at the moment.

My semi-related anecdote:  I've started running more on trails, and today I went out on the road and ran a pace about 30 seconds faster than "normal" without even realizing it.  So I'm wondering if the heavier shoes (I wear Salomon Wings on trails - so awesome but heavier), plus the water bottle, surface inconsistency, etc. helped increase my speed in lighter shoes and more predictable surfaces.  Dunno.  Maybe I was just on a tear today.

Good luck with everything.
