Subject: Map my _______ and wrist GPS questions
I'm wanting to get a GPS unit in the next couple of months to basically map the places I've been.  I'm just going to get a basic arm one since I have no need for the map stuff since I rarely get lost (my one gift).  And it's not really for mapping roads since I can google/bing map that easily enough and I have a bike computer.  I'm wanting it more for mountain biking and offroad trail runs.

One question is, are the "Map my ______" the same websites just with a different last name?  I'm thinking Map My Run is the biggest and would have the most info but they look so similar I think they all are the same.  Also if I do Map my Run will it show where I went offroad with accuracy?

2nd question is if I get the basic $150-250 wrist GPS units, can I upload the info to the Map My ______ websites?

And a 3rd question.  Does anyone sell the GPS units cheap or would I be better off just getting it from REI and getting $10-20 back on my dividend?

1) MapMyRun is part of MapMyFitness.  Like you suspected they are all connected and all use the same database.  Off-road accuracy is similar to on-road accuracy which is ~10 meters.  Frequently I get better than that.

2) The website allows you to upload Garmin data to map out your run/ride.  The basic units are good enough for this.  I'm not sure if another brand of GPS works with the upload link.

3) Search engines are your friend for cheap GPS units.  REI has a good return policy and in general has the GPS units competitively priced.
