Total Time = 58m 22s
Overall Rank = 51/112
Age Group = 40-44M
Age Group Rank = 9/17
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5:30, ate PB on white bread, 1/2 bannana. Drank a cup of coffee and 1 gatorade
Event warmup:

Ran about 3/4 of a mile to warm up and find the run course.
Swim
  • 10m 48s
  • 750 yards
  • 01m 26s / 100 yards
Comments:

Had a great swim, the waves were a little tough going out to the first buoy, hard to sight the bouys due to the swells. Settled in after the first buoy and had a good rest of the swim, stayed on course and felt good coming out of the water.
What would you do differently?:

Probably could have done a better job getting to the first buoy, went a little wide because I thought the current was stronger.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Sat down to take off the wetsuit, that's the way to go for me, it's quicker than falling over trying to get it off.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 23m 47s
  • 8 miles
  • 20.18 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt good on the bike, maybe not as fast as I would have liked. Did not feel like I could go as fast as I should for such a short distance, legs felt a little tired.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Had my cages on so getting into T1 and back out was not a problem, helmet off and off to the run.
Run
  • 23m 8s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt O.K. on the run, never felt terrible. The beach was not bad, ran on the hard packed sand near the waterline.
What would you do differently?:

My run is usually my best event, I need to pick up the pace for sure. I did not keep track of my splits, I should have paid attemtion to the splits, I could have picked up the pace.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank 2 bottles of gatorade and had a sandwich.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I did the White Lake 1/2 the week before so maybe my legs were still a little tired from that, did not feel like I had the power I needed on the bike. It's such a short bike that I really needed to go all out. I think my top speed was 23-24 MPH.

Event comments:

For me to finish the swim third in my AG was awesome, my last 2 races my swim has been great, it used to be my weakest area. I have been counting on my run to save me on the last few races and it has not. I have been taking my running for granted, not putting in the miles.

Way to go Nick! That swim time was awesome. It took me 15 minutes and I thought I was going to quit by the time I got to the first buoy. I really need some help/coaching/anything for my swim. I was let down on the run as well. I really thought the last mile was faster than it was. The beach took it out of me as well. It seemed like every push off made me slip. The hard packed portion helped alot. I have been out of town but I'll get me report posted as soon as I can.
