Subject: Foot surgery- what to expect & how soon?
I am asking if anyone out there has had plantar fascia release surgery while being a triathlete. If so, how long did it take you to get back into the different disciplines? I had my L foot done in Dec/2004 and ran my first half mary in May 2005. If I remember, it took me about 3 months before I was comfortable enough to attempt working my way into running again. I was not a triathlete at that time. My R foot is scheduled for 10/1. I will be in a cast for 2 weeks post-op and then it's progressive weight bear as tolerated. I understand the running thing, but how long did it take you to get into the pool or on the bike (on the trainer)? I don't want to make this a thread about NOT having surgery.. trust me, I've done literally everything for my foot for several years now. This is my best option as I want to do a half iron next Sept. Thank you in advance!

When I had it done I was on crutches for 7 weeks. When I did start walking I had changed my gait so much it caused other problems. Just going by the problems I had I would say that you could maybe get back in the pool around 8 weeks or so, biking maybe 10-12, and running I would have no idea, for me it was at least 12 but probably longer.

Good luck
