Pre-race routine:

Got up, ate a light breakfast, drank water and headed downtown.
Event warmup:

Walked around, some casual running for a few minutes here and there... nothing big.

  • 08m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

I wore too much clothing (long sleeves and a total of 3 shirts) because it had been a cold morning and I thought it might rain. I got super hot on the course and ended up throwing water on myself around the 4k mark.
What would you do differently?:

I would get closer to the front of the start group in order to break away from the mass congestion a bit sooner. Also, wear more appropriate clothing.

Warm down:

Does walking to the bus count? :)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Too hot, people in the way...

Performance: Average
The first few minutes of the race were slow given that there were so many people bunched up at the start. My official end time was maybe 28 minutes (ish), but I did not cross the start line until a good minute after the race had started. I did not really get going until a good 0.25 miles into the race. I also ended up running into a couple of people who decided to start walking in front of me.
Course: Course was setup pretty well... a few small hills, very scenic... unfortunately, there were a few bottlenecks around the turns.

Wow! How many people were in this race? I don't think I have ever been in a race where it takes a min. to cross the starting line. I guess that is where chip timing would come in handy.

Good race,

Randy
