Subject: Problems with friends feed
Mike,

Following on our discussion on RSS and the suggestion of using the friends feed to keep up to date, I want to let you know about some issues with the friends feed. I have used it for a while, prior to RSS I used the friend feed but abandoned it due to shortfalls. Here are some issues I have noticed, not sure of the cause, but wanted to let you know about them.

The friends feed doesn't show all my friends updates, in fact certain people never show up.
For example today 19 of my friends updated their log, with a workout or with a log entry. I know about the shortfall that s/b/r workout writeups do not propagate into the friend feed, but it is interesting that strength workouts writeups and sports writeups do show up.

As for today, 19 updates of those 10 updates where log only, 5 of them where log and workout, and 4 were only a workout log. So theoretically the 10 or 15 updates should be shown in the friend feed. Only 5 were shown. Of the 5 shown 2 included a workout and a log update and three only included a log update.

So that is one of the major reasons that I moved to RSS, since most logs were not being shown. Looking at history people that I know update their log everyday never show up in my friend feed, in fact it seems like only about 8-10 of my friends ever show up. I havent asked the friends about their security setting, some may be friends only, others maybe not. One common thread I see with some who do not show up is that they use their iPhone to update their log, so maybe that has an impact.  Anyway, just wanted to provide some feedback.

You have found a relic of how the blogger worked when we used an older database before we were able to log multiple trisports.  Back then we only did 'overall comments' as a blogger trigger for 2 reasons: comments are more interesting than sports notes, and primarily because of the database structure - a lot more efficient.

Now that we have migrated to our current dbase structure, we should change the 'my friends' link in the bt blogger area to be triggered by trisports too.
