![]() Swim
Comments: Swim went alright, sighting went better. but was basically swimming on pace with the same partner the whole time! Toxic fumes made swimming just gross. The wade start definately helps me out quite a bit because I don't have that "jump" in my heart rate. I was steady with the HR the entire time and hit the rhythm faster. Also, currents were very fortunate. Had currents with with a South and Shore directing flow. What would you do differently?: Maybe go with my QR half wet-suit. While the full was nice, the water was quite warm temperature wise. But fortunately even with the mass crowd, I was able to get free open water (aside from bumping into the same swimmer constantly). ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Ripped my goggles in T1. But otherwise, T1 was fast for me. What would you do differently?: Not rip up my goggles. ![]() Run
Comments: Clocked 6:30 first mile, 7:04 and around 7:00 for the last 3.1. I got passed in final mile. I realized that I may have lost my runner's kick. I was passed in the final mile, which took me by complete surprise. I must have passed about 8-10 people Mile 1 - Avg HR = What would you do differently?: Do I need a runners kick? I had it with my running career. But maybe it's not a big deal b/c I'm getting ready for an Ironman. Don't know but need to get some strides in badly for my run workouts. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Ate too much. 3 bagels, 2 donuts, 3 huge chocolate cookies, 1 banana. Then again, I had a long bike ride after this race Event comments: First race thrown by Scott Willard from Manhattan Island Foundation. The post race food was key and it was fantastic. While it would have been great to shut off the course, it wasn't a big issue. One good thing to work on for the swim would be to use buoys that are NOT the same color as the swim caps. This made sighting a logistical nitemare in the water. I looked up trying to find the buoy and there were 10-15 orange rounds objects in view. Just to make sure! Last updated: 2005-06-18 12:00 AM

Nothing. First time this event was getting started, so it wasn't much for a pre-race routine. Ate a cliff bar, walked around a bit, nothing special.
Jumped into hudson river, this damn river is just gross. GROSS. Green, toxic fumes, I am just amazed I didn't get out of the water with three eyeballs or something. Waded a bit at start buoy and then off we went.
